In Chennai, she takes responsibility for a property positioned in the premium segment, whose identity is built around art, dining and a contemporary approach to hospitality.

Her stated priorities include business development, strengthening the hotel’s distinctive identity, fostering collaboration between teams and enhancing the guest experience.

From Bahrain to Singapore: a career spanning marketing and operations

Anuradha Venkatachalam has more than 16 years of experience in international hospitality, primarily across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

She began her hospitality career in Bahrain in 2010 as Sales and Marketing Manager with IHG, before joining Crowne Plaza Kuwait in 2012 as Marketing and PR Manager.

In April 2014, she joined Marriott International as Cluster Director of Marketing Communications and Public Relations, a position she held until June 2015.

She subsequently returned to IHG, serving as Director of Sales and Marketing in Oman from September 2015 to June 2018.

She then joined Crowne Plaza Changi Airport in Singapore as Director of Sales and Marketing. In September 2020, she was promoted to Executive Assistant Manager – Commercial, before becoming Director of Operations in October 2021.

This progression reflects a transition from predominantly commercial responsibilities towards broader operational leadership, encompassing team management, service quality and hotel performance.

At Marriott, leading the opening of South Asia’s first Moxy

In October 2023, Anuradha Venkatachalam joined Marriott International as Hotel Captain, tasked with preparing and overseeing the opening of Moxy Bengaluru Airport Prestige Tech Cloud.

The property marked the Moxy brand’s first entry into South Asia.

This assignment involved several aspects of hotel development: pre-opening preparations, recruitment and mobilisation of teams, implementation of brand standards, commercial positioning and the establishment of operational processes.

Positioned within the lifestyle hospitality segment, the Moxy concept is characterised by a less conventional guest experience and an operating model adapted to evolving consumer preferences.

This pre-opening responsibility complemented the commercial and operational experience she had previously gained at IHG.

A profile combining commercial strategy and hotel management

Anuradha Venkatachalam’s career is distinguished by a combination of commercial, marketing and operational responsibilities.

Before entering hospitality, she worked in digital marketing at Citi in Bahrain, following an earlier role in telecommunications in India.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore and an MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies.

She has also completed additional professional training, notably in hotel owner-operator relations, change management and process improvement.

This combination of commercial and operational expertise is a defining feature of her professional profile.

She also places particular emphasis on talent development, employee engagement and the advancement of women into leadership positions.

Supporting the development of Pullman Chennai Anna Salai

In her new role, Anuradha Venkatachalam intends to build on the identity of Pullman Chennai Anna Salai, particularly its artistic positioning and food and beverage offering.

The hotel promotes a hospitality experience combining creativity, guest engagement and lifestyle elements, reflecting the evolving positioning of the Pullman brand.

The new General Manager will need to balance commercial development, consistency of the guest experience and employee engagement.

Her experience across Asian and Middle Eastern markets, combined with leadership responsibilities within several international hotel groups, provides a foundation for supporting this next phase.

The appointment also illustrates the mobility of senior hospitality executives between major international brands, with leadership profiles increasingly combining commercial strategy, hotel operations and brand positioning.
