Hungary | Danubius Hotels adds Danubius Hotel District V, its 17th hotel in Budapest

From 1 October 2026, the current H2 Hotel Budapest will join the Hungarian chain Danubius Hotels under the name Danubius Hotel District V. With the addition of this 157-room property in the heart of the Hungarian capital's 5th district, the group's portfolio will reach 17 hotels. The move reflects Danubius Hotels' continued development in its domestic market, backed by its British shareholder CP Holdings.

A strategic address in the heart of Budapest

Located in Budapest’s 5th district, the future Danubius Hotel District V enjoys a sought-after position in the very centre of the city. Its proximity to St Stephen’s Basilica, the Hungarian Parliament, the Chain Bridge and the banks of the Danube makes it a prized address for individual and group leisure guests alike, as well as for business travellers.

The choice of name refers directly to this location: “District V” designates Budapest’s fifth district. With its urban, contemporary character, the hotel adds to Danubius Hotels’ existing offering in the Hungarian capital.

A further step in the group’s growth

The arrival of the Danubius Hotel District V marks a long-awaited step in the hotel chain’s development. This growth also reflects the long-term commitment of CP Holdings, Danubius Hotels’ British shareholder, to the group’s continued expansion.

Balázs Kovács, chief executive of Danubius Hotels Zrt, said the company had long been working towards expanding its portfolio with a new hotel and was particularly pleased to reach this important new milestone. He said that with the Danubius Hotel District V, the group was further strengthening its presence in one of the best locations in central Budapest, and that from 1 October it would be welcoming guests across 17 hotels. With the backing of its shareholder, he added, Danubius would continue to develop and seek out new opportunities to strengthen its position in the Hungarian and international hotel markets.

This growth momentum is also underpinned by strengthened governance: Danubius Hotels appointed László Csapó as Director of Business Development in autumn 2025, tasked with the strategic and operational steering of the group’s growth projects.

A long-term operating agreement with the Austrian owner

The building housing the Danubius Hotel District V belongs to LGT Immo Kft., an entity of the Austrian ILAG Group, which has signed a long-term hotel operating agreement with Danubius. The agreement strengthens Danubius’s position in the Hungarian hotel market and marks a further step in the group’s development strategy.

Éva Zupkó, managing director of LGT Immo Kft., said the company had been looking for a hotel operating partner with stable professional standing, substantial experience of the local market and recognised expertise in hotel management. In Danubius, she said, it had found a reliable, long-term partner whose expertise and strong presence in Hungary provided a solid foundation for the hotel’s continued operation and development.

Newmark VLK Hungary, the real estate advisory firm, assisted the owner in selecting the operator. Its managing director, Péter Takács, said there had been strong interest in operating the hotel from both local and international players, confirming Budapest’s status as a leading European tourist destination. He added that a property so centrally located and in such excellent technical condition represented an exceptional long-term investment for its owners, as well as a significant development opportunity for an experienced operator.

Operational continuity ensured by the existing team

The Danubius Hotel District V will join the hotel chain on 1 October, continuing its current operations. The existing team of 20 staff will join the Danubius community and continue in their roles, ensuring guests are welcomed by staff who already know the property well.

A sustained investment plan in the Hungarian market

In recent years, Danubius has invested around €130 million (HUF 50 billion) in developing and renovating its hotels. Alongside this investment, the chain intends to keep strengthening its presence in the market through new commercial and hotel operating opportunities.

With the arrival of the Danubius Hotel District V, the group consolidates its position with an additional prime city-centre location and new commercial prospects.

A diversified Hungarian hotel portfolio

Danubius Hotels Zrt. is owned by CP Holdings Ltd., a British company with hotel interests in several European countries. The group operates 17 hotels in Hungary under the Danubius Hotels and Ensana brands, as well as the Hilton Budapest, the Radisson Blu Béke Hotel Budapest and the Hotel Erzsébet City Center Budapest, a member of Radisson Individuals.

The portfolio also includes the White Raven Skybar & Lounge, a rooftop panoramic bar offering one of the finest views over Budapest. Danubius Hotels properties offer a broad range of services for individual, group and business travellers, alongside dedicated conference and event spaces grouped under the Danubius me: brand. The All-Inclusive offering and the Bubbles Club programme for children round out the services aimed at families.

The group also highlights its approach to employment, recognised through the “Employer of the Year” and “Gold Level Responsible Employer” awards, as well as the training of 250 professional trainees each year.
