Marriott Canada has announced the appointment of Gilbert Lemieux as General Manager of Delta Hotels by Marriott Sherbrooke Conference Centre, a 178-room property located in the heart of Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships (Estrie). The move is part of a broader wave of leadership renewal across the Delta Hotels network in Canada: in late July, Greg Godfrey took over as General Manager of Delta Hotels by Marriott Fredericton, in New Brunswick, effective 20 July 2026, following more than twenty-two years of experience in hotel leadership and a previous role as Director of Operations at the same property.

“I am delighted to welcome Gilbert Lemieux to the Marriott Canada family as the new General Manager of Delta Hotels by Marriott Sherbrooke Conference Centre. With more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Gilbert is a respected leader known for his ability to build strong teams, deliver results and create meaningful connections with associates, guests and the communities he serves,” said Susie Grynol in a LinkedIn post, Regional Vice President of Marriott Canada.

A Return to His Roots at Delta Hotels Sherbrooke

Gilbert Lemieux‘s career path is closely tied to his new role. Between 2004 and 2011, he successively held the positions of food and beverage supervisor and then sales representative at the property, then operated under the Delta Sherbrooke brand. His appointment as General Manager thus closes a loop spanning more than twenty years with this same hotel address.

In between, Gilbert Lemieux joined Destination Sherbrooke as a trade shows and exhibitions representative, before taking on the role of Sales Director and then General Manager at Domaine Château-Bromont, a position he held for more than twelve years. There, he oversaw the property’s human, material and financial resources, while building partnerships with major tourism players in the Eastern Townships region, including Ski Bromont, Granby Zoo and Tourisme Cantons-de-l’Est.

Expertise Built Between Business Tourism and Conferences

Throughout his career, Gilbert Lemieux has developed particular expertise in structuring conference and event offerings on the outskirts of Montréal. His positioning draws on Sherbrooke’s proximity to Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, under an hour’s drive away, an asset regularly highlighted in the destination’s commercial development efforts with corporate event organisers and receptive agencies.

This dual expertise in hotel sales and operational management is a strong asset for Delta Hotels by Marriott Sherbrooke Conference Centre, whose event offering rests notably on its meeting spaces and its position as an anchor for business tourism in the Eastern Townships.

Hospitality Training Rooted in Québec

Gilbert Lemieux holds a diploma in hotel management from Collège Mérici, in Québec City, where he completed his college studies between 1994 and 1997. He began his professional career at Manoir Hovey, in North Hatley, where he served as Assistant Maître d’Hôtel for nearly four years, before a brief international stint at the Fairmont Southampton, in Bermuda.
