A 366-key beachfront resort
Meliá Hotels International will introduce its Gran Meliá luxury brand to the United Arab Emirates with J1 Hotel, a Gran Meliá Hotel, due to open in the fourth quarter of 2027 in Jumeirah 1, Dubai. The property will enjoy a beachfront location, with views of both the sea and the city skyline.
The scheme will comprise 366 rooms and suites, including 40 units with private pools. This room mix brings a more exclusive resort dimension to an accommodation offer designed around the waterfront.
Leisure facilities will include direct beach access, four swimming pools, a rooftop and landscaped retail areas. A ballroom and dedicated meeting and event spaces will allow the hotel to target group, corporate and private events business, complementing leisure demand.
A third Meliá address in Dubai
J1 Hotel will join Meliá Desert Palm and ME by Meliá Dubai, whose general management has just been entrusted to Arlette Richter-Picardo. Its positioning will combine resort facilities, destination dining, wellbeing and direct beach access.
The project forms part of the Spanish group’s drive to strengthen its luxury portfolio, also illustrated in Europe by the signing of its first hotel in Lerici, on the Italian Riviera.
Food and beverage as a cornerstone of the project
Food and beverage will be one of J1 Hotel’s main anchors, with several internationally recognised concepts spread across the site. Jul’s, a Greek restaurant brand born in Ibiza, will make its Dubai debut following a recent opening in London.
Tala, a new concept dedicated to Middle Eastern cuisines, will offer an open kitchen, private dining rooms and a shisha terrace facing the marina. Zuma Beach House, meanwhile, will open its first beachfront venue in the Middle East, on a 140-metre stretch of private beach.
London Chinese restaurant Park Chinois will take up residence on the rooftop with its late-night dining concept. A Mediterranean restaurant by Novikov Restaurant & Beach Club and an all-day dining restaurant will complete the offer, with details to be revealed closer to opening.
THT analysis – By relying on established third-party restaurant brands, the project is banking on their reputation to attract local and non-resident diners, beyond hotel guests alone.
A rooftop wellbeing hub
The wellbeing offer will centre on Journée Wellbeing, a rooftop space operated by Waring Wellbeing Hospitality. The concept will combine treatments, guest practitioners and recovery facilities.
It will also host Aufguss sauna ceremonies run by 432 Social Wellbeing. Group Reformer Pilates sessions delivered by Jeju Pilates will add a structured fitness component.
Pedro Neto appointed general manager
The property will be led by Pedro Neto, who has more than 20 years’ experience in luxury hospitality. His career includes 17 years with Four Seasons, in Lisbon, Nevis, Maui and Prague.
He has also held leadership roles at Octant Vila Monte and Verdelago Resort, in Portugal’s Algarve. He will oversee the opening of a property designed to operate both as a hotel and as a lifestyle destination.
