The Justice Family Group and Kennedy Lewis Investment Management announced on 14 August 2026 the completion of a joint venture designed to strengthen The Greenbrier for the long term, the historic hospitality complex in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The deal is intended to give the property a solid financial foundation and additional operational expertise, while preserving its identity and its local roots.

The tie-up comes as several international investment funds step up their exposure to high-heritage-value North American resorts, echoing the recent fundraising for the transformation of the Cal Neva into the Lake Tahoe Proper Resort and Casino.

An alliance built to secure the resort’s future

The transaction is designed to give The Greenbrier a robust financial base and to support long-term investment in the property’s infrastructure and guest experience. According to David Chene, Managing Partner at Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, the deal combines Kennedy Lewis’s financial, strategic and operational resources, Lloyd Nathan’s thoughtful and proven oversight as Chairman, and the Justice family’s deep local roots, with the aim of strengthening The Greenbrier’s position among the world’s great destination resorts.

For Jill Justice, D.O., representing the Justice Family Group, this step marks “an important new chapter” for a property that is more than just a resort: she describes it as a piece of West Virginia history and an economic anchor for the local community. She stresses that the partnership brings the financial strength, expertise and long-term investment needed to protect what makes the property unique.

Lloyd Nathan takes the chair of the Board

As part of the agreement, Kennedy Lewis has appointed Lloyd Nathan Chairman of the Board of The Greenbrier. He brings several decades of experience across hospitality, gaming, real estate, investment and large-scale development, including nearly ten years at MGM Resorts International.

Lloyd Nathan describes The Greenbrier as “a truly irreplaceable destination resort in the United States,” noting that few properties can rival its history, natural beauty, scale, amenities and emotional connection with generations of visitors. He states that the intention is not to change what makes the property distinctive, but to invest in its future and reinforce what makes it exceptional.

Casino operations continue under regulatory oversight

The West Virginia Lottery Commission has authorised casino operations to continue while the Commission reviews the transaction. Representatives of The Greenbrier said they appreciated the regulator’s engagement and stated they were ready to cooperate throughout the review process, pending final approval of the new governance structure. In the meantime, casino operations continue without interruption.

Continuity assured for guests and events

The Greenbrier remains open and fully operational throughout the transition period. Existing reservations, meetings, conferences, weddings and other scheduled events will proceed as planned, with no impact on the guest experience.

Two complementary partners

The Justice Family Group is a West Virginia-based family group active in hospitality, agriculture and other sectors. The family acquired The Greenbrier in 2009, preserving the historic resort, protecting local employment and maintaining its role as a major economic and tourism asset for the state. Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, for its part, is an alternative investment firm specialising in flexible capital solutions, supporting companies through periods of transition and transformation – an approach also seen in other recent hospitality joint ventures structured between institutional investors and local operators.

The Goldman Sachs Group announced on 18 August 2026 the acquisition of LCN Capital Partners, a platform specialising in sale & leaseback transactions, for a consideration of up to €351M ($410M). The deal gives Goldman Sachs Asset Management a specific area of expertise - the resale of corporate real estate while preserving its use through a long-term lease - after two years marked by high interest rates that curbed investment in physical real estate. For the hospitality sector, the acquisition is also a reminder that LCN held exclusive talks in 2025 to buy nine Silken hotels in Spain, before ultimately being outbid by Hotusa.
