Announced in the spring, the appointment of Gregory Coquet as head of Riveo Limited has now taken effect. The new CEO took up his post on 1 October 2026. He succeeds François Eynaud, who stepped down from his executive responsibilities on 30 September.

A leader from within the portfolio

Riveo presents the appointment as the start of a new chapter. In its announcement, the group stresses that Gregory Coquet played a significant role in structuring and managing its portfolio. He therefore already knows the company’s business, assets and ambitions.

His career within the group bears this out. Gregory Coquet spent more than four years as general manager of Shangri-La Le Touessrok, one of Riveo‘s flagship assets. In early 2025, he moved to the holding company to oversee operations and subsequently asset management. He was succeeded as general manager of the resort by Frédéric de Marcy Chelin in March 2025.

The group describes his progression as reflecting close and continuous involvement in Riveo’s development, from its beginnings to its current structure.

A career spanning Paris, Switzerland and Mauritius

A Mauritian national, Gregory Coquet is a graduate of Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland. He began his career in France as a Project Manager at Potel & Chabot from 2002 to 2005. He then joined Hôtel de Crillon in Paris as senior sales manager.

He went on to hold several operational positions with Kempinski in Switzerland before moving to Mauritius in 2013. He joined Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury in May 2016 as deputy general manager and became its general manager in February 2017.

Riveo highlights his more than twenty years of international hospitality experience, divided between resort operations and asset management. This dual expertise matches the company’s model: it owns its assets and entrusts their operation to international brands.

A company born of the Sun Limited demerger

Riveo Limited is one of the two entities created by the demerger of the long-established Sun Limited at the end of 2024. The other, Sunlife, houses the hotel operating business. The two companies are listed separately on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.

Based in Ebène, Riveo is an investment company. Its upscale hotel assets are concentrated on the island’s east coast: Shangri-La Le Touessrok, Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita and Île aux Cerfs Leisure Island & Golf Club. It relies on asset management and on partnerships with international luxury brands. The group employs 1,243 people.

A twin succession on 1 October

The change of leadership at Riveo took place on the same day as at Sunlife, where Joelle Edwards-Tonks became CEO. Both companies had been led by the same executive, François Eynaud.

According to the announcement shared by CIEL, François Eynaud was instrumental at Riveo in bringing together a high-quality asset portfolio within a clear, well-structured framework. He remains on the board as a non-executive director. He also retains a role as strategic adviser to both companies, which is intended to ensure operational continuity during the transition.

Strengthening the portfolio for the long term

Riveo frames the appointment within a long-term perspective. The group says it intends to continue strengthening its portfolio and pursuing its long-term ambitions, and is counting on the new CEO’s leadership, experience and vision.

Our analysis – By choosing an executive who has served as general manager of one of its resorts and then moved into asset management, Riveo has opted for continuity. For a holding company that does not run its hotels itself, the main levers are its relationships with the brands that operate them and the management of asset performance. Gregory Coquet knows both sides of that relationship.
