A leader shaped by the major digital platforms

Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has announced the appointment of Jeff Moore as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He will take charge of the group’s global technology organisation on 26 October. Underlining the strategic importance of the role, Jeff Moore will report directly to Chris Nassetta, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hilton, and will sit on the Executive Committee.

Jeff Moore joins from Uber, where he served as Vice President of Software Engineering. There, he led a global organisation of 2,500 engineers, whose teams worked on Uber Eats, Uber for Business and the group’s growth and marketing technologies.

LTH Analysis – By recruiting from outside the hotel industry an executive shaped at Uber and Amazon, Hilton is opting for a platform engineering culture to steer its technology transformation. The appointment comes as AI reshuffles the deck in travel distribution, as illustrated by Expedia Group’s reorganisation around AI. Hilton also recently published its 2027 Trends Report on traveller expectations.

More than twenty years across Uber, Amazon and Anheuser-Busch

The new CTO brings more than twenty years’ experience leading technology, engineering, product and operations organisations on a global scale. At Uber, he oversaw the engineering teams for Uber Eats, Uber for Merchant, Uber Direct, Uber Courier, Uber Advertising, Growth and Marketing, Uber for Business and Applied AI.

He previously held several leadership roles at Amazon.com. He was one of the founding leaders of Fulfillment by Amazon, and went on to head the engineering and product organisations behind the group’s devices, including Kindle, Fire TV, Fire Tablet and Echo/Alexa.

Jeff Moore began his career at Anheuser-Busch, first in software engineering and then in operational leadership roles. He holds three US patents and sits on the board of directors of Edmund Optics.

AI at the heart of the roadmap

For Chris Nassetta, technology has long been a driving force of hospitality at Hilton. He said the company has long relied on technology to advance hospitality and deliver better stays for its guests. At a time of extraordinary change, he added, Jeff Moore’s deep technical expertise, operational experience and customer focus will help Hilton move faster, harness AI and next-generation technologies, and continue to play a leading role in shaping the future of hospitality.

Jeff Moore said he was drawn by the group’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, and in particular by Hilton’s aim to harness AI and next-generation technologies to reinvent the guest experience and give its teams greater capabilities. He hopes to help write, alongside Chris Nassetta and the leadership team, the next chapter of innovation at Hilton.

A platform built with owners in mind

Hilton has already launched several next-generation tools, including an AI-powered trip-planning service that connects search to stay. The group has also fully modernised its technology platform, enabling it to roll out new guest-facing tools rapidly, such as personalised digital messaging. The stated objective is twofold: to improve efficiency and profitability for owners, and to personalise the guest offering at scale. This direction echoes other recent initiatives by the group, such as the Home2 Suites Clean Energy prototype, designed to reduce owners’ energy costs.

Hilton has already rolled out several digital services, including Digital Key Share, automated complimentary room upgrades and confirmed connecting rooms. Through the Hilton Honors app, guests can book, choose their room, check in, open their door with a digital key and check out from their smartphone. The loyalty programme has more than 260 million members.

A challenge on the scale of a global portfolio

The new CTO will work across a network of 28 brands, representing more than 9,400 properties and nearly 1.4 million rooms in 144 countries and territories. Hilton employs 500,000 team members worldwide.
