Former Jumeirah CEO and longtime Four Seasons executive joins the board of the British luxury hotel group
Maybourne has announced the appointment of José Silva as Chairman of the group. The Portuguese executive, who brings more than four decades of experience in luxury hospitality, will support the British group through its new phase of international growth, alongside the board of directors and the executive team led by Marc Socker, Chief Executive Officer.
A career forged at Four Seasons and Jumeirah
José Silva spent nearly 25 years with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, holding several general management positions across Europe. He notably led the Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, whose restaurants collectively earned five Michelin stars under his leadership, before taking on regional responsibility for Europe at the group, covering France, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. He was also named Hotelier of the Year by Virtuoso.
In 2018, José Silva became Chief Executive Officer of Jumeirah Group, a role he left at the end of 2022 after leading the Emirati brand’s transformation from a regional player into a global luxury brand. The Dubai-based group has since seen several leadership transitions, including interim periods under Thomas B. Meier and the appointment of Katerina Giannouka.
Strengthened governance for Maybourne
The appointment comes amid a period of leadership change at Maybourne, several months after the departure of Roland Fasel, who held the role of Group Chief Operating Officer. The group, which operates Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Berkeley and The Emory in London, as well as Maybourne Beverly Hills and Maybourne Riviera, is also continuing to develop its portfolio, with the opening scheduled for 2027 of the Maybourne Saint-Germain, the group’s first palace-style hotel in the French capital.
An advisory role for the next stage
In recent years, José Silva has also directed his activity towards advising owners and investors, through FOSI Advisory, a firm he founded in Dubai that focuses on luxury asset strategy and brand positioning. His experience in asset management and board governance aligns directly with the responsibilities of the Chairman role.
