A promotion above property level

US operator Davidson Hospitality Group has appointed Melissa Green as Regional Vice President, Operations. Her remit will be to drive performance and optimise results across a portfolio of full-service hotels and resorts.

For Jason Reader, Chief Operating Officer of Davidson Hospitality Group, the promotion recognises a career that has flourished within the group. He pointed out that Melissa Green was one of the first people called upon to launch the company’s inaugural GM Council. Now working above property level, he said, she will continue to create value in everything she undertakes, leading in service of her teams, ensuring seamless operations and fostering a culture of excellence.

The appointment extends a series of moves within the group’s operational leadership, following the appointment of Joe Masi as Senior Vice President, Operations in June.

Five hotels run in Spokane

Melissa Green previously served as Vice President and Area Managing Director of The Davenport Hotel Collection. The collection brings together five hotels in downtown Spokane, Washington: the Davenport Hotel, The Davenport Tower, The Davenport Lusso, The Davenport Grand and The Centennial.

During her tenure, she was closely involved in the local community. Notably, she launched the inaugural Pacific Northwest Food & Wine Festival, a multi-day event celebrating the region’s culinary heritage, craft wines and hospitality.

A career shaped at Hyatt

Before that, Melissa Green was Area General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge and the Hotel Viking, where she delivered strong results in guest satisfaction, team engagement and revenue generation.

Her work earned her several accolades. Hyatt Hotels Corporation named her team Franchise Leadership Team of the Year for the full-service segment in North America, and the Spokane Journal of Business recognised her individually among its “25 People of Influence”. She holds a B.S. in Food & Beverage Management from Johnson & Wales University.

A growing multi-brand operator

Davidson Hospitality Group currently manages 90 hotels and resorts, more than 240 restaurants, bars and lounges, and approximately 130,000 sq m of meeting space across the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. The company is an operating partner of Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Kimpton, Margaritaville and Nobu.

The group is organised around four specialist operating verticals: Davidson Hotels, Pivot, Davidson Resorts and Davidson Restaurant Group. Its European presence took shape with the takeover of the management of Ragdale Hall Spa in the United Kingdom.

Analysis – Melissa Green’s promotion reflects an internal promotion policy already evident in Steve Keck’s move to Vice President, People & Culture-Field Operations in July. For a third-party operator working with numerous brands, elevating general managers from its own portfolio into regional roles keeps leaders who know the assets from the inside close to the owners.
