Marriott International and SomeraRoad, a New York- and Nashville-based real estate investment and development firm, have unveiled The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights, an exclusive collection of luxury residences that will bring Ritz-Carlton’s service and hospitality to the borough of Brooklyn.

A historic former grand hotel undergoing transformation

The project occupies the former Hotel Bossert, a 14-storey Renaissance Revival building located at 98 Montague Street, in the heart of Brooklyn Heights. This residential neighbourhood, one of New York’s most sought-after, is known for its 19th-century architecture, tree-lined streets and views of the Manhattan skyline.

Designed by New York architecture firm Helmle & Huberty, the hotel opened its doors in 1909 and quickly established itself as a favoured address in the neighbourhood, welcoming celebrities, business leaders and top athletes. The property is perhaps best remembered for hosting the Brooklyn Dodgers’ celebration following the 1955 World Series.

SomeraRoad acquired the property in 2025 and assembled a team of architects, designers and heritage preservation specialists to oversee its transformation. Ian Ross, founder and Managing Principal of SomeraRoad, said the Hotel Bossert had long been one of Brooklyn’s most iconic buildings, and that the company was honoured to help write its next chapter. Alongside an exceptional team of architects, designers, heritage preservation specialists and Marriott International’s teams, he added, they were carefully restoring the historic property while creating a residential experience that honours the Bossert’s rich legacy and celebrates the enduring appeal of Brooklyn Heights. Heritage restoration in service of a luxury residential offering

The building’s geometric-patterned brick façade, carved granite and limestone base, ornate terracotta cornice, double-height arched windows, wrought-iron balustrades and iconic lion’s-head keystones will undergo careful restoration, preserving the building’s historic character while preparing it for its new purpose.

Residents will benefit from personalised support combining ownership status with The Ritz-Carlton’s hospitality and international recognition, through the group’s ONVIA owner recognition programme. The project will also feature a 24-hour attended lobby and dedicated residential services in line with the brand’s standards.

The building’s ground floor will also house the first full-service restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) in Brooklyn. The group intends to establish a neighbourhood destination for residents and locals alike, bringing its community-rooted hospitality approach to the area.

She added that, as a true reflection of a brand known for its timeless elegance, Brooklyn Heights stands out for its unique blend of historic charm and contemporary culture, making it an ideal destination to mark the brand’s 50th standalone residence in its global development portfolio. This project forms part of continued growth in Marriott’s branded residences segment, which recently reported a record year for its global branded residences portfolio, with a growing number of signed agreements and projects in development. The group already has other Ritz-Carlton residence programmes under way elsewhere in the United States, including the The Ritz-Carlton Residences project in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, which is also expected to be completed soon.

Brooklyn is also confirming its growing appeal for major international hotel brands, as seen with the Livingston, the neighbourhood’s first Hyatt hotel, which recently opened as part of the US group’s development push.
