A rebranding in the first quarter of 2027
Accor announced on 23 September 2026 that SO/ Berlin Das Stue will become Sofitel Berlin Das Stue and officially join the Sofitel network in the first quarter of 2027. The 78-room property will keep its original name, now paired with the group’s French luxury brand.
According to Accor, the move strengthens Sofitel’s presence in Germany and brings one of Berlin’s most highly regarded luxury boutique addresses into its portfolio. It forms part of the brand’s European strategy, which targets cities considered priorities.
A former embassy facing the Tiergarten
The hotel occupies a heritage-listed neoclassical building dating from the 1930s, which originally housed the Royal Danish Embassy. The name “Das Stue”, meaning “living room” in Danish, recalls these diplomatic origins.
It stands in the embassy quarter, right next to the Tiergarten and Berlin Zoological Garden. Some rooms look directly onto the zoo’s enclosures. Berlin’s upscale market is shifting on other fronts too: Hotel Palace Berlin will switch to the Hyatt Regency brand within the same timeframe.
The building’s conversion into a hotel was entrusted to the practice Axthelm Rolvien Architekten and designer Patricia Urquiola. Together they created a venue closer to a private residence than a conventional hotel, blending diplomatic heritage with residential elegance.
An upgrade programme to Sofitel standards
The move to the Sofitel brand will be accompanied by a works programme designed to bring the property in line with brand standards, without altering its identity or interior architecture. It includes the renovation of rooms and corridors, new bedding and textiles, a refresh of the public areas and new signage.
The lobby will also be redesigned, with new artworks and decorative pieces. Neither the timetable nor the investment amount has been disclosed.
The future Sofitel Berlin Das Stue will offer 78 rooms and suites, including the Bel Etage Suite and the Penthouse Suite. Facilities will include a heated indoor pool, a spa, a fitness room, private meeting spaces and a food and beverage offering developed in line with Sofitel’s culinary standards.
Berlin, Sofitel’s latest European milestone
Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery and Emblems, explained the choice by pointing to the city’s profile, describing Berlin as one of Europe’s most dynamic cultural capitals, a city that constantly reinvents itself while preserving its exceptional heritage – a balance she said Sofitel Berlin Das Stue embodies perfectly.
She added that the group was delighted to welcome this iconic address into its portfolio and looked forward to bringing Sofitel’s French art de vivre to this extraordinary hotel, while preserving the authenticity and individuality that have made Das Stue so popular with guests from around the world.
According to Accor, the arrival supports Sofitel’s development across 15 key European destinations. Sofitel Dublin is also due to open in 2027. These projects join a series of recent European signings, such as Sofitel Genoa Waterfront in Italy and Sofitel Porto in Portugal.
Germany, a strategic market for Accor
Accor operates nearly 300 hotels in Germany, representing more than 43,000 rooms across all segments, with around 30 projects under development. The group relies on a dedicated management team for the DACH region.
Our analysis – The deal moves a property from a lifestyle brand to the group’s historic luxury brand, with no change of asset. By retaining the Das Stue name, Accor is banking on the hotel’s established reputation rather than a new identity, and is using the conversion to strengthen Sofitel in a capital where the luxury segment is being reshaped.
