TFE Hotels has announced a €62m investment (AUD 100m, at the exchange rate of 7 September 2026) in the renovation of its first-generation Adina hotels. The programme is designed to reposition several of the group’s flagship properties, alongside the opening of new addresses in Australia, Europe and the UK.

According to Antony Ritch, Chief Executive Officer of TFE Hotels, the Adina brand is evolving to meet the needs of guests who want both hotel-style service and the comfort of a home. He notes that the group is working closely with its third-party owner partners to enhance the brand’s distinctive strengths: generous living spaces, relaxed Australian hospitality and considered interior design.
Darling Harbour, a showcase for the brand’s renewal
The renovation of Adina Darling Harbour illustrates this momentum. Designed by architecture firm Bates Smart, the 114-room property has been reimagined as a waterfront living space, with a palette drawn from the natural history of Sydney Harbour: marine blues, sea greens and shell tones. The renovation extends beyond the guest rooms, with a new restaurant opening onto the lobby and the pool, designed to create a smoother flow between the hotel and the waterfront.
The hotel is marking its 26th anniversary, having opened ahead of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. This transformation follows other projects across the group’s Australian network, including the renovation of Adina Perth, which draws on the colours and landscapes of Western Australia, and that of Adina Town Hall in Sydney, completed the previous year.
Sustained rollout across Europe
The group is also continuing to renovate its European portfolio, with projects under way in Germany and recently completed in Hungary. In Frankfurt, Adina Frankfurt Neue Oper is undergoing a 12-month renovation programme, under way since January, which will transform the property’s 134 apartments and communal areas. The refurbished interiors will feature responsibly sourced natural materials, including wood and stone, complemented by warm lighting and artwork by local and Australian artists.
Moritz Klein, Director of Operations for Europe and the UK at TFE Hotels, says the new design aims to create a sense of home for guests, with open lobbies and a seamless flow into the bar and dining areas. He notes that sustainability principles underpin the entire design, through a focus on durable quality and responsible sourcing.
In Budapest, Adina Budapest has completed a nine-month renovation programme covering 75 rooms in the main wing as well as the communal areas. The new design adopts a palette of earthy tones, enhanced by olive ceilings and yellow accents, echoing the character of the Hungarian capital. Angéla Gergye, General Manager of the hotel, says guest response has been very positive, with visitors appreciating both the new décor and the spacious comfort that characterises the brand. The property is located a short walk from the Danube and the WestEnd City shopping centre, close to Margaret Island and its thermal baths.
A growing network, spanning pipeline and new geographies
Beyond its renovation programme, TFE Hotels continues to expand its Adina portfolio, with openings announced in Brisbane and Hobart in Australia, as well as in Cambridge and Glasgow in the UK. This forms part of a broader push to strengthen the group’s presence in Europe, which has recently confirmed the opening of an A by Adina in Berlin, set for 2027.
The group is also rolling out a digital guest experience platform across the network, aimed at strengthening the connected, personalised dimension of the stay. Further renovation projects are in preparation, including for apartment-hotel properties in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Singapore, underlining TFE Hotels’ ambition to establish Adina as the leading Australian name in the apartment-hotel segment internationally.
