Therme Group, the Austrian operator renowned for its large-scale urban wellness destinations, announced on 13 August 2026 the signing of a strategic alliance with Marriott International. The two groups intend to jointly explore a series of targeted initiatives focused on the future of wellness in travel and hospitality.

This partnership brings together Therme’s expertise in wellness, longevity and large-scale social experiences with Marriott’s global platform. The move reflects a broader industry trend, with several hotel groups already pursuing everyday longevity strategies in response to growing traveller demand.

The Marriott Design Lab at the Heart of the Initiative

Therme will collaborate with the Marriott Design Lab, the American group’s research and development hub. This unit, dedicated to innovation and design, serves as a testing ground for products and services aimed at improving hotel operations and the travel experience.

The two organisations have identified several shared priority areas: guest experience, design innovation, wellness research, and global development opportunities.

Experiences Designed for Marriott Bonvoy Members

The alliance’s first concrete actions will focus on introducing Therme to members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme. This includes the creation of travel and accommodation packages linked to Therme destinations, as well as a broader exploration of how guests experience wellness throughout their journey.

“Some of the most memorable travel experiences are those that transform how you feel. Today’s guests are looking for experiences that help them slow down, restore and reconnect, which makes wellness an increasingly important part of the stay,” said Peggy Roe, EVP and Chief Customer Officer of Marriott International. She added that the collaboration with Therme offers an opportunity to create moments of restoration, joy and connection that distinguish every stay.

Rethinking Hotel Wellness Spaces

Therme will bring its expertise in large-scale wellness environments to help rethink hotel facilities, from spas and fitness spaces to guestroom concepts. This work is expected to inform short-term initiatives while also shaping longer-term opportunities in product innovation, service models and destination planning.

“Wellness has become a defining dimension of the travel and hospitality experience. For two decades, Therme has developed a distinctive approach that brings together wellness, nature and social connection at scale. This partnership with Marriott is a valuable opportunity to combine our complementary strengths to explore new ways of bringing hospitality and wellness together,” said Dr Robert Hanea, President and CEO of Therme Group.

A Shared Ambition for the Industry

The initiative reflects a shared commitment to continuing to transform the role of wellness in hospitality. Marriott International and Therme Group believe the future of travel will be shaped by more holistic approaches to health, longevity and social connection — a theme that several luxury hospitality players are now placing at the centre of their governance and talent priorities.

Strategically, the partnership also fits within Marriott’s broader global growth trajectory, after the group confirmed in 2025 the strength of its international development model. The two partners note, however, that any future collaboration will remain subject to further agreement, with the alliance announced at this stage constituting a framework for exploration rather than a definitive operational commitment.
