2027, United States | Under Canvas to open its 18th glamping camp near Santa Fe, with saunas and hard-sided cabins
Under Canvas, the American upscale glamping specialist, will open its 18th camp in April 2027 a few kilometres from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Set on a 259-hectare estate bordering the Galisteo Basin Preserve, the 45-tent property marks the brand's first foray into the state and introduces its first saunas, ahead of hard-sided cabins still to come. The project reflects the gradual upmarket evolution of a concept born in 2012, now part of the World of Hyatt loyalty programme.
Under Canvas, the American upscale glamping specialist, will open its 18th camp in April 2027, around a 30-minute drive from downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico. The 45-tent property sits on a 259-hectare (640-acre) estate bordering the Galisteo Basin Preserve, which spans more than 4,047 hectares (10,000 acres) and 64 kilometres (40 miles) of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails.
This marks the brand’s first property in New Mexico and its 18th in the United States. Unlike its earlier camps, typically located close to a national park, Under Canvas Santa Fe is banking on proximity to a city renowned for its cultural offering: more than 250 art galleries and 20 museums, including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture. The historic Canyon Road district alone is home to around a hundred galleries and shops along roughly 800 metres (half a mile).

A camp designed for the desert and the stars
The 45 tents will be spread across an upper terrace, a juniper-covered slope and a lower meadow. Each will feature a king-size bed, a private bathroom with a pull-chain shower and low-flow toilet, a private deck, a wood-burning stove and an evaporative cooling system. Tents will not have standard electrical outlets; only the cooling systems will be powered, with rechargeable battery packs provided to guests for their personal devices. Wi-Fi will remain limited to the welcome tent.
The range includes Deluxe tents, more spacious Suites, and Stargazer tents fitted with an observation window above the bed. Some can be paired with Kids Tents featuring two twin beds, while two-tent suites connected by a shared deck will accommodate families and groups.
Saunas and hard-sided cabins: a first for the brand
Under Canvas Santa Fe marks several firsts for the brand. The camp will feature the group’s first saunas, along with a dedicated event space — a first in the brand’s portfolio. Air-conditioned hard-sided cabins will also be added alongside the classic tents, though the group has not yet announced a firm timeline for their opening.

According to Noah Brodsky, general manager of Under Canvas, quoted by Afar, the high desert is really what the whole experience is about. He noted there is a great deal of open space, and that the company wants to keep it that way. Outdoor lighting will follow DarkSky International standards, an organisation dedicated to reducing light pollution. Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, in Utah, became the world’s first DarkSky-certified hotel property in 2023; several other camps in the group have since earned the same distinction. The group has not said whether Under Canvas Santa Fe will pursue this certification.
This growth in the upscale outdoor segment is also visible in other US markets, such as Outbound Sedona, which recently opened among the red rocks of Arizona.
A gradual move upmarket since 2012
Bookings are already open for the April-to-October 2027 season, with rates starting at €257 (about $279), excluding taxes and fees. Under Canvas Santa Fe will also take part in the World of Hyatt loyalty programme, allowing members to earn and redeem points.
This new camp continues the trajectory of a company founded in 2012 near West Yellowstone, Montana. Under Canvas has since launched Ulum, a more upscale concept near Moab in 2023, followed by its Outdoor Collection in 2025, dedicated to nature-focused properties. This gradual move upmarket also reflects a broader trend in the glamping sector, echoed by Groupe Huttopia, which has just opened two new destinations in France on the shores of Lake Aiguebelette.
