A return to the Maldives after Thailand and Bali

Ifuru Island Maldives has appointed Niclas Prokop as General Manager. He takes up the role in October 2026 following several leadership positions in Thailand and Bali, most recently as Managing Director of Hanging Gardens of Bali.

The appointment brings him back to a destination where he spent close to ten years. During that time, he led sales and marketing at Ayada Maldives, Dusit Thani Maldives and Amari Havodda Maldives, and later supported the latter’s rebranding as NH Collection Maldives under the Minor Hotels banner – a property now led by Keith Tomkies, appointed General Manager of NH Collection Maldives Havodda Resort.

A commercial profile turned operational

His career spans resort operations, sales and marketing, commercial strategy and guest experience. He began in Germany with DER Touristik in Frankfurt, in hotel contracting, before joining Thomas Cook and the Rewe Group as Product Manager and subsequently Product Director.

He then moved to the hotel side, first as Director of Sales and Marketing for LykiaGroup in Turkey, then in the Indian Ocean. He went on to serve as Chief Commercial Officer of Azulik in Tulum and as Vice President Sales & Marketing MEAP for The Standard Hotels in Bangkok.

In 2024, he took on his first general management role at ONYX Hospitality Group’s OZO Chaweng Samui Resort, a 208-room and villa property. He joined Hanging Gardens of Bali in February 2025 as General Manager, before being promoted to Managing Director in August 2025. Under his leadership, the resort earned Forbes Travel Guide recognition.

Operations, commercial performance and international markets

Located in Raa Atoll, Ifuru Island comprises 147 sunset-facing beach suites and villas. The resort operates its Exclusively Yours all-inclusive programme, complemented by a range of dining, entertainment, wellness and island experiences.

Niclas Prokop will oversee all operations and the strategic direction of the property. His remit covers guest experience, commercial performance and the development of Ifuru Island in its international markets.

A Maldivian market where differentiation hinges on experience

The appointment comes as Ifuru Island continues to build its positioning within the Maldivian resort market. General management across the archipelago has seen sustained turnover in recent months, from Soneva Fushi to Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort.
