A two-stage entry into Japan
IHG Hotels & Resorts is bringing Noted Collection to Japan with the signing of two hotels in Tokyo. The first, in Shinjuku, is a conversion. The second, in Ginza, will be a new build. Each project is backed by a different owner – SC Capital Partners on one side and An Consulting on the other – and both are partnering with IHG in Japan for the first time.
This double signing comes a few months after the launch of Noted Collection. The group’s 21st brand is designed to bring together premium independent hotels while preserving their individual identity.
Shinjuku: a 207-room conversion for 2027
In Shinjuku, the agreement with SC Capital Partners covers a 207-room hotel in the Kabukicho district, a short walk from Golden Gai. The property sits in one of the capital’s main retail and entertainment hubs. It is the first Noted Collection conversion signed in Japan.
The hotel will be renovated and rebranded before reopening in 2027 with its own distinct identity. Plans include a lobby opening onto the restaurant and café, designed to encourage interaction.
SC Capital Partners owns the asset through its Japan Hospitality Fund. Daisuke Hiramoto, Managing Director and Head of Japan at SC Capital Partners, said: “Following our acquisition of this property through our Japan Hospitality Fund, we saw an opportunity to enhance the guest experience and maximise the hotel’s potential. IHG Hotels & Resorts was the clear partner for us, given its scale and ability to elevate distinctive hotels while preserving their individuality.”
Ginza: an 81-room new build for 2029
The second project, led with An Consulting, will be located in Ginza 8-chome, a district renowned for its dining, luxury retail and cultural heritage. The 81-room hotel, within walking distance of Shimbashi and Ginza stations, is scheduled to open in 2029. It is the first new-build Noted Collection signing in Japan, and IHG has until now had no presence in Ginza.
The scheme includes family-friendly suites, a restaurant and bar, and a fitness centre. For Amane Kotani, Representative Director of An Consulting, the hotel “will combine a distinctive sense of place with the character and sophistication that define the area”. He sees it as an attractive new hotel offering for Japanese and international travellers alike.
Japan’s premium segment in the spotlight

IHG presents these signings as a sign of significant potential in Japan’s premium segment. Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director Japan & Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, observed: “Owners are increasingly looking for flexible brand solutions that allow hotels to maintain their individuality while benefiting from IHG’s global scale, enterprise platform and loyalty programme.”
He added that the group looks forward to growing Noted Collection alongside owners who share its vision, as it continues to expand its premium portfolio across the country.
In parallel, the group is preparing its luxury project in Kyoto, Regent Kyoto, due in 2028. These announcements come as the Japanese market continues to attract international capital. KKR, for example, has just sold 16 Four Points Flex by Sheraton hotels in Japan.
An international pipeline taking shape
Noted Collection gives owners access to IHG’s commercial platform and the IHG One Rewards programme without standardising the properties. The two Tokyo hotels join a pipeline that already includes Theobalds Estate in the United Kingdom and Cantonal Hotel Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The brand has also recently signed a 50-room hotel in Amman, Jordan.
