A 171-room hotel right on the beach

The hotel sits on the beachfront at Cala Millor, one of the most sought-after areas on Mallorca’s east coast. It is next to the Punta de n’Amer protected natural area and has direct access to the beach.

Meliá Cala Millor has 171 rooms. Its facilities also include an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby bar, a pool bar, a gym and a spa.

A transition period to meet brand standards

The property officially joined the group’s portfolio on 1 November, and a transition period began on the same day. During this period, the hotel will be brought into line with the standards and guest experience of Meliá Hotels & Resorts.

29 hotels on the island where the group was born

Meliá now has 29 hotels in Mallorca. The group has grown on the island alongside its transformation as a tourist destination. Meliá was founded there in 1956 by Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, who died in November 2024, and opened its first hotel there.

The group aims to offer increasingly upscale experiences on the island that are closely tied to the destination. It says it draws on local culture and the Mediterranean way of life.

Gabriel Escarrer’s view

Gabriel Escarrer, chairman and chief executive officer of Meliá Hotels International, said that celebrating 70 years while continuing to grow in Mallorca held particular significance for the group. He described the island as its home: the place where it was born, and where it learnt that hospitality can become a powerful way of connecting people with their surroundings, local culture and the Mediterranean way of life.

He added that welcoming the hotel into the Meliá family allows the group to keep investing in its roots, while continuing to improve the tourism offering in iconic destinations such as Cala Millor.

Mallorca, a solid base

Analysis – The group presents this addition as the continuation of a long-term commitment to Mallorca. It aims to develop the island’s tourism offering with higher-quality, more personalised stays. For Meliá, the island remains both its historic base and a benchmark market for its resort offering.

Meanwhile, the group continues to expand elsewhere in Europe, from the Costa del Sol with The Meliá Collection in Estepona to Italy, where The Meliá Collection will arrive in Rome in 2027.
