Tanja Münker to Take the Helm at Grand Hotel Belvedere

The Grand Hotel Belvedere, part of the Beaumier collection, will welcome Tanja Münker as Area General Manager from 1 January 2027.

She will succeed Lorenz Maurer, whose tenure at the property has previously been covered by La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie.

The appointment comes at a time when operational excellence, employee retention and differentiated guest experiences remain important priorities for luxury hotels in Alpine destinations.

General Management Experience Gained in Grindelwald

Since December 2022, Tanja Münker has served as General Manager of Bergwelt Grindelwald Alpine Design Resort, another upscale property in the Bernese Oberland.

In this role, she has overseen day-to-day operations, service standards and a team of 95 employees.

The position has enabled her to develop first-hand knowledge of Swiss Alpine hospitality, its operational characteristics and team management within an international tourism environment.

A Career Built with Marriott and Sheraton

Before joining Bergwelt Grindelwald, Tanja Münker served as Multiproperty Director of Operations for Neues Schloss Privat Hotel and Sheraton Zürich Hotel from February 2019 to December 2022.

Between March 2018 and February 2019, she worked with Marriott International in Frankfurt, supporting project management and front office operations.

Her career also includes several operational management positions at properties within the American hotel group:

  • 2016–2018: Rooms Operations Manager, AC Hotel by Marriott Nice.
  • 2011–2016: Front Office Manager, Munich Airport Marriott Hotel.
  • 2008–2011: Executive Housekeeper, Munich Marriott Hotel.
  • 2011: Member of the pre-opening team at JW Marriott Hotel Ankara.

Earlier in her career, she held Executive Housekeeper positions at Vila Vita Hotel und Residenz Rosenpark and Maritim Hotel Frankfurt, having previously worked as Housekeeping Supervisor at Frankfurt Marriott Hotel.

Having completed her hospitality training at Frankfurt Marriott Hotel between 1999 and 2001, she brings a professional background spanning rooms division management, multi-property operations and general management.

Leadership Transition at the Wengen Property

As previously reported, Tanja Münker will succeed Lorenz Maurer, who has served as Area General Manager of Grand Hotel Belvedere since September 2023. Maurer has been appointed General Manager of The Alpinist, an ambitious ultra-luxury development in Andermatt.

Grand Hotel Belvedere represents an important property in Beaumier’s development in Switzerland. As early as 2024, La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie highlighted the project in an article covering the appointment of Anna Fedou as the group’s Brand and Marketing Director.

Analysis | Operational Continuity in Swiss Alpine Hospitality

Tanja Münker’s appointment reflects both cultural and operational continuity. German is the predominant language in Wengen, particularly Swiss German and the local Bernese dialect, Bärndütsch. Moving from Grindelwald to Wengen, she will remain within a familiar Alpine hospitality environment while joining a hotel group with a European portfolio.

Her experience in multi-property operations and rooms division management should prove valuable in supporting the teams at Grand Hotel Belvedere.

For Beaumier, the appointment comes as the group continues to consolidate its positioning in Switzerland.

The transition from Lorenz Maurer to Tanja Münker also illustrates the movement of experienced hotel executives between Switzerland’s leading Alpine destinations.
