Aman has opened the doors of Amanvari on the shores of the east coast of Baja California Sur, in Mexico. Nestled within the exclusive Costa Palmas community, where the Sea of Cortez shapes one of the country’s most extraordinary coastal landscapes, this sanctuary of 18 Casitas also unveils a limited-edition collection of Aman-branded residences, confirming the brand’s continued expansion in the Americas.
The name Amanvari combines the Sanskrit words for “peace” and “water.” The property rises at the meeting point of ocean, desert and estuary, in the shadow of the Sierra de la Laguna. Designed by Elastic Architects, with an initial contribution from Heah & Co., the resort traces a natural path from its entrance to the central lagoon and then to the beach, making the dialogue between desert and water a founding principle of its design.
Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO of the Aman Group, presents this opening as a key milestone in the brand’s continued development across the American continent, with Amanvari introducing the Aman lifestyle for the first time to one of Mexico’s most exceptional coastal sites. The group, which he acquired in 2014, continues to build its presence in urban markets as well as new resort destinations, as with the recent launch of Amansanu, its first hotel ranch concept in the Texas Hill Country.
All independent, the 18 Casitas have been positioned along the water, some slightly elevated above the estuary, others closer to the shoreline. Each spans 82 square metres, with a terrace of up to 200 square metres, a private heated 10-metre pool, an outdoor shower and a fireplace. A natural colour palette combining wood and stone, along with raw white concrete hand-applied by local artisans, complete a design faithful to the brand’s understated DNA.
On the dining side, Luma celebrates coastal Mexican traditions around open-air wood-fired cooking, while The Lounge Bar and The Pool showcase produce from local farms and fisheries. Arva offers seasonal Italian cuisine, and Sesui a Japanese omakase experience at a 10-seat counter. The Aman Spa and Wellness Centre combine the brand’s holistic offering with Mexican healing rituals, centred on a contemporary interpretation of the Temazcal, a first for Aman.
Set within the private Costa Palmas estate, the property provides access to 1,500 acres including organic farms, five kilometres of beach, a Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course, a deep-water marina and a yacht club. The opening of Amanvari forms part of a broader American pipeline for Aman, with Aman Miami Beach, Aman Beverly Hills, Amancaya in the Bahamas and Amansanu in Texas still to come, continuing the strategy pursued by Vlad Doronin since his acquisition of the group in 2014.
