The Queen at Chester Hotel reopens following an extensive renovation and becomes the first UK property in Handwritten Collection, Accor’s portfolio of independent hotels continuing its international expansion. The brand now counts more than 50 open hotels across 20 countries, with 50 more properties in development.

Opened in 1860 as a grand hotel for first-class travellers, the property, located opposite Chester railway station, is regarded as one of the earliest skyscrapers of its era and has welcomed famous guests such as Charles Dickens. The hotel offers 218 rooms, including spacious family rooms and suites, alongside the V&A Restaurant, showcasing seasonal local produce, the V&A Lounge Bar for afternoon tea and cocktails, and an outdoor terrace. The property also features seven meeting and event spaces, including a grand ballroom accommodating up to 400 guests, as well as a gym.

This opening also marks the first franchise partnership between Accor and LGH Hotel Management Limited, which will manage the property. Aiden McAuley, COO Managed Hotels Europe & North Africa at Accor, noted that this UK first for Handwritten Collection illustrates the Group’s ambition for this market, where it sees strong development potential across all its brands. Andrew Munt, CEO of LGH Hotel Management Limited, said the partnership aims to position the property as an authentic gateway to Chester’s heritage and local culture.
The Queen at Chester Hotel – Handwritten Collection thus joins Accor’s UK portfolio, which numbers more than 200 hotels across around twenty brands.
