Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Guyanese owner RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. announced on 13 August the addition of the Atlantic Suites Hotel to the Hyatt portfolio as an affiliated hotel. This marks the first Hyatt-affiliated property ever to open in Guyana.

By 2028, the current Atlantic Suites Hotel is set to be integrated with an adjacent new-build tower to form the future Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana. The project, valued at approximately $50 million (roughly €43.2 million), is expected to significantly expand the property’s guestroom capacity and communal spaces, with the aim of delivering a full Hyatt Regency offering.

A gateway to one of the world’s fastest-growing economies

This announcement marks the arrival of one of the first international hotel brands in Guyana, a country regarded as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. The hotel is located in Georgetown, the country’s capital and business hub, approximately 9.7 kilometres from Eugene F. Correia International Airport.

Its location is expected to allow it to meet growing demand from a mixed clientele of business and leisure travellers, with direct access to key government bodies as well as the capital’s rapidly developing business district.

A property built for business travellers and extended stays

Designed for business and extended-stay guests, the Atlantic Suites Hotel currently offers 80 spacious rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking either the Atlantic Ocean or the city of Georgetown, along with a 24-hour fitness centre.

Guests also have access to the amenities of the neighbouring Pegasus Hotel and its Pegasus Corporate Business Center, both properties also owned by RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. Together, the properties offer approximately 3,344 m² of meeting and event space, six dining venues — including the Aura Sky Lounge with its panoramic city views — and an outdoor swimming pool.

A new tower to form the future Hyatt Regency Georgetown

RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. plans to develop a new tower adjacent to the Atlantic Suites Hotel as part of this approximately €43.2 million investment. Once complete in 2028, the new building will be connected to the existing property by a pedestrian walkway, uniting both buildings under the Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana banner.

The hotel will then offer 240 rooms and suites, a restaurant and signature market, a lobby bar and a rooftop bar, complemented by meeting and event spaces, for an expanded offering catering to business, leisure and group travellers.

This launch in Guyana represents an important milestone in our strategic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Cristiano Gonçalves, Vice President of Development, South America and the Caribbean, at Hyatt. “As the country’s economy continues to grow and demand for international travel increases, we see a significant opportunity to serve business and long-stay travellers with the hospitality Hyatt offers. The Atlantic Suites Hotel establishes this important market within Hyatt’s portfolio, while laying the groundwork for the future Hyatt Regency experience and the expanded World of Hyatt offering in the years ahead.”

Guyana is experiencing a period of extraordinary growth and international interest, making this the ideal moment to introduce the Hyatt brand to the country,” said Robert Badal, CEO of RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. “The Pegasus Hotel has been part of Georgetown’s hospitality landscape for decades. Joining the Hyatt portfolio allows us to build on that legacy while showcasing Guyana’s hospitality, culture and natural beauty to travellers from around the world.

A regional strategy continuing with Hyatt Place Georgetown

The addition of the Atlantic Suites Hotel forms part of Hyatt’s development strategy in the Americas region, which aims to strengthen its brand presence in key destinations, including emerging markets that currently have no Hyatt property.

By the end of the year, Hyatt Place Georgetown Guyana is also expected to join the group’s portfolio. The property will feature 136 modern rooms, a rooftop bar, an outdoor pool and complimentary breakfast. Following its transition to the Hyatt Regency brand in 2028, the Atlantic Suites Hotel will in turn join the World of Hyatt loyalty programme, allowing members to earn and redeem points on stays, dining, wellness experiences and more.

This dual rollout illustrates Hyatt’s continued development across Latin America and the Caribbean, a region where the group has recently stepped up openings and brand conversions, such as the Alila brand’s regional debut with the opening of Alila Mayakoba in Mexico.
