Dusit Hotels and Resorts has announced the appointment of Daniel Charlton as General Manager of the Dusit Princess Hotel Residences Nairobi. The move marks a return to the Kenyan capital for the hotelier, who previously held operational responsibilities there with the Thai group some years earlier.

A career built between operations and food & beverage

Daniel Charlton began his career in England, in Poole, where he served as Assistant Manager at the Bankes Bistro & Wine Bar between 1993 and 1995, following an apprenticeship at the Norfolk Royale Hotel. His career then took him abroad, with stints in Sweden and Australia, before moving to the Middle East and South America, where he held Food and Beverage Manager positions with Casinos Austria International, including at the Oasis Intercontinental Hotel Casino Resort in Jericho, Palestine, and the Hotel Laguna Mar Resort & Casino on Margarita Island, Venezuela.

Between 2001 and 2007, he ran the Shak Bar & Restaurant at Port Olímpic in Barcelona as Managing Director and owner, before joining the Almanzora Group in Spain, where he spent more than eight years as Food and Beverage Director at the Desert Springs Resort & Golf Club in Almería.

An earlier spell in Nairobi followed by multi-continental development

Daniel Charlton first joined Dusit Hotels and Resorts in December 2015 as Director of Food and Beverage in Nairobi, a role he held until November 2017. He then left the group to take up the Food and Beverage Director role at LUX* Resorts & Hotels in the South Ari Atoll, Maldives, before joining Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts on the same archipelago in 2018.

Between September 2019 and January 2021, he held the position of Cluster Director of Food and Beverage for the Cuban group Blue Diamond Resorts, in Havana. 🔗 Also on LTH Nairobi, Kenya | Rob Kucera appointed Regional Vice President for East and Southern Africa at Aleph Hospitality

A gradual return to the Dusit group

Daniel Charlton rejoined Dusit Hotels and Resorts in February 2021 as Director of Food and Beverage, including culinary oversight in Cairo, Egypt, a role he held for more than four years. In April 2025, he moved into a Hotel Manager position in Manila, Philippines, before being appointed General Manager of the Dusit Princess Hotel Residences Nairobi in April 2026.

This trajectory illustrates the internal mobility policy pursued by the Thai group, which favours the progression of its executives across its various markets. 🔗 Also on LTH Thailand | Dusit International appoints Marc Handl to lead the Dusit Thani Bangkok
