Wanda Hotels & Resorts passed the 300-hotel mark worldwide in August 2026, a milestone the group presents as a new stage in its growth trajectory since its founding in 2007. The company, headquartered in Hong Kong and a subsidiary of listed travel platform Tongcheng Travel, now counts more than 300 hotels in operation representing over 52,000 rooms, alongside a pipeline of more than 500 additional projects spanning over 400 destinations.

Li Jun, President of Wanda Hotels & Resorts, said the 300-hotel milestone reflects the diversification of the group’s brand portfolio, the integration of its capabilities across the full hotel lifecycle, and a long-term commitment to the Chinese market, historically the group’s core driver of growth.

An integrated model, from design to operations

Wanda Hotels & Resorts positions itself as an operator covering the entire hospitality value chain, from design and construction through to operations. The brand portfolio spans luxury to upper-midscale, led by Wanda Reign at the top of the range, followed by Wanda Vista, Wanda Realm and Wanda Jin, alongside the lifestyle brands Wanda Yi, Wanda Moments and Wanda Yue.

This brand architecture allows the group to cover both urban addresses in China’s major cities and resorts in sought-after tourism destinations. The model is built on an asset-light approach, with the group deploying its brands through management contracts while adapting operations to local market specifics.

International growth gathers pace

The first half of 2026 marked an acceleration in the group’s international growth. Wanda Hotels & Resorts signed its first management agreement in Zimbabwe, marking its entry into the African market. The signing comes as the continent becomes an increasingly contested growth ground for major international hotel groups, with Radisson Hotel Group recently surpassing 100 hotels in Africa through comparable market entries in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.

The group has also added new projects in Cambodia and Laos, with hotels in Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh and Luang Prabang. This move is part of a broader regional trend, as several international operators strengthen their presence in Southeast Asia across similar heritage destinations.

These new markets add to Wanda Hotels & Resorts’ already established international presence, notably in Istanbul, Türkiye, in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand, and in Vientiane, Laos.

Integrated tourism drives domestic growth

In the Chinese market, the group’s strategy is increasingly geared towards integrated tourism projects combining accommodation with local experiences. Beyond the Changbaishan Wanda International Resort, the group is rolling out a model combining skiing, wellness, hot springs and family tourism, with projects under development in Jilin province and other destinations.

The group is also weaving local cultural resources into its tourism projects. In Danzhai, Guizhou province, operations combine the intangible cultural heritage of the Miao ethnic group with accommodation and educational experiences. In Yuxi, Yunnan province, a project centred on the legacy of composer Nie Er brings together music, cultural experiences, retail and accommodation.

Loyalty and digital distribution

Wanda Hotels & Resorts’ loyalty programme counted more than 25 million members as of the end of August 2026. Since its integration into Tongcheng Travel in October 2025, the group has sought to strengthen its distribution channels and digital capabilities through cooperation with the travel platform, building on the complementarity between hotel growth and online distribution.

A milestone among internationally-minded Chinese hotel groups

The 300-hotel milestone places Wanda Hotels & Resorts among the Chinese hotel groups with the most pronounced international ambitions, alongside players such as H World International and Jin Jiang International, which are also pursuing growth beyond mainland China. The combination of an integrated model, a dense pipeline and recent geographic diversification into Africa and Southeast Asia positions the group to continue its growth well beyond this symbolic milestone.
