Archipelago Hotels, Southeast Asia’s leading privately owned hotel group, has announced the roll-out of five properties across Java and Sumatra, spanning new openings and brand rebrandings. This expansion comes as Indonesia records continued growth in tourist arrivals and hospitality sector activity in the first half of 2026.

Tourism growth driving hotel demand

Between January and June 2026, Indonesia welcomed 7.45 million foreign tourists, a rise of 5.71% compared with the same period the previous year. Over the same period, the accommodation and food service sector grew by 13.14% in the first quarter of 2026, according to data cited by the group.

This momentum is fuelling increasingly segmented hotel demand, spanning business travel, leisure tourism and family stays, which Archipelago Hotels aims to address through a targeted expansion of its portfolio.

Five properties between openings and rebrandings

The group is introducing five properties across Java and Sumatra: the Aston Cimone Hotel & Convention Center, the Aston Malang Hotel & Conference Center, the Nawana by Alana, the fave+ hotel Lampung and the fave+ hotel Pamanukan. The line-up combines two new openings and three rebrandings, though the release does not specify the exact breakdown between the two categories.

Each property has been designed to cater to a distinct guest profile, spanning business travel, MICE, family stays, leisure and transit stopovers. The portfolio features differentiated amenities depending on the site, including ballrooms and meeting rooms, restaurants and family-oriented services, alongside strategic positioning near economic hubs, tourist sites and major transport routes.

A deliberate diversification strategy

“The growth of tourism and the hospitality sector is generating increased demand for hotels that combine quality with a genuine connection to the identity of each destination. Indonesian travellers no longer choose their hotel on price alone. An attractive rate may catch the eye, but perceived value now rests on a combination of quality, comfort and an experience memorable enough to be recommended,” says John Flood, Chief Executive Officer of Archipelago Hotels.

The executive frames this shift as a dual challenge for the group: meeting the practical needs of the market while delivering a customer experience distinctive enough to build loyalty and generate recommendations.

This strategy is part of a broader structuring of the Indonesian hotel market, where other players are stepping up initiatives to capture tourism growth. Pollux Hotels Group forged successive alliances with Accor and then Marriott International over the summer of 2026, underlining the appeal of the Indonesian market to international operators.

Archipelago Hotels, a key player shaping Indonesian hospitality

Founded in Jakarta, Archipelago Hotels claims the status of Indonesia’s and Southeast Asia’s leading privately owned hotel group, with more than 45,000 rooms across over 350 hotels, spanning more than 200 destinations in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Oceania. Its portfolio comprises 13 brands, including Aston, Alana, Huxley, Park Lane, Kamuela, Avanika, Harper, Quest, Four Corners, Neo, fave, Nordic and Aston Collection.

The group highlights an asset-light, technology-driven approach to support its expansion in key markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Oceania and Latin America. Other regional operators are also consolidating their presence in this market: Vietnam’s Fusion Hotel Group recently added the Indonesian brands Ayola and Odua to its regional portfolio, confirming the growing interest of Asia-Pacific groups in the Indonesian market.
