Australia | Keith Massey appointed General Manager of the future Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge
Keith Massey has been appointed General Manager of Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, in New South Wales, ahead of its planned opening in 2027. The exact date has yet to be confirmed.
The appointment marks another milestone in the executive’s career. He brings more than 25 years of international hospitality experience, including approximately a decade with Marriott International.
His career has spanned several Asia-Pacific markets, notably China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand, before his return to Australia.
A career spanning Hyatt, Marriott and Ritz-Carlton
Keith Massey held several positions with Hyatt, including Director of Food & Beverage at Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai from 2006 to 2008, followed by Executive Assistant Manager, Food & Beverage, at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong until 2012.
He subsequently became Hotel Manager of Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur before taking on the General Manager position at Hyatt Regency Phuket, which he held from July 2013 to November 2016.
In November 2016, he joined Marriott International as General Manager of JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa in Thailand. During his tenure, he oversaw a refurbishment of the property while maintaining a focus on guest satisfaction and team engagement.
In July 2020, he returned to Australia to lead Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast, remaining in the role until October 2026.
Preparing a new chapter for Wolgan Valley
In his new position, Keith Massey will be responsible for overseeing the lodge’s operational preparations, building and mobilising its teams, and developing a personalised luxury experience closely connected to Wolgan Valley’s natural surroundings.

Jason Nuell, Regional Vice President, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific at Marriott International, highlights Massey’s experience in luxury resort operations, team leadership and maintaining service standards.
The appointment of an executive with extensive experience in resort management and refurbishment represents an important step in preparing for the 2027 opening.
New Zealand | Peta Ruiter takes the helm of Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour
Peta Ruiter has been appointed General Manager of Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour in New Zealand.
She succeeds Reto Borer, who has moved to Australia, and officially took up her position on 26 October 2026.
Ruiter brings more than 25 years of hospitality experience, with a career particularly focused on commercial strategy, revenue management, operations and hotel repositioning.
More than two decades with Hilton across Asia-Pacific
Peta Ruiter spent the majority of her career with Hilton, where she worked for more than twenty years.
After holding revenue management positions at Hilton Cairns and Hilton Hanoi Opera, she progressed into commercial leadership roles at several of the group’s properties across Asia.
She subsequently served as Commercial Director at Hilton Pattaya, Hilton Nagoya, Hilton Tokyo Odaiba and Conrad Seoul.
From October 2022 to June 2024, she held her first General Manager position at DoubleTree by Hilton Seoul Pangyo Hotel & Residences, a 602-key complex whose opening and initial operational phases she oversaw.
The opening also marked the introduction of the DoubleTree brand to the South Korean market.
Following her departure from Hilton, she joined Travvia as Head of Commercial Performance, Australia & New Zealand, serving from October 2024 to October 2025.
Her career therefore combines extensive commercial expertise with operational experience in general management and hotel openings.
Combining commercial and operational expertise at Sofitel
At Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour, Peta Ruiter will be tasked with continuing the property’s development while balancing Sofitel’s French hospitality traditions with the expectations of the New Zealand market.
LTH Analysis | Two appointments, two operational priorities
These appointments illustrate two distinct requirements facing international hotel groups.
At Wolgan Valley, Marriott has selected an executive with substantial experience in resort operations and hotel transformations to prepare the opening of a luxury property whose guest experience is closely connected to its natural environment.
In Auckland, Sofitel has recruited a leader with a particularly strong commercial background, complemented by experience in general management and hotel openings.
The appointment of Peta Ruiter highlights the value of combining commercial and operational expertise when managing an upscale property.
Keith Massey’s appointment underlines the importance of hands-on operational experience and team leadership during the preparation of a hotel opening.
In both cases, the hotel groups are seeking leaders capable of balancing service quality, financial performance and team management, albeit at different stages of the hotel lifecycle.
