Mexico | Hyatt Repositions Impression Isla Mujeres Under The Unbound Collection While Retaining Luxury All-Inclusive Model

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that Impression Isla Mujeres, a 123-suite adults-only resort, is joining The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Opened in 2023 under the Impression by Secrets brand, the property will retain its luxury all-inclusive operating model. The move illustrates how the US hotel group can combine a collection brand built around each property's individual identity with an upscale all-inclusive offering.

A 123-suite resort changes brands within Hyatt’s portfolio

On 2 November 2026, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced that Impression Isla Mujeres would join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the collection, which was launched in 2016.

Located at Punta Sur, on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancún, the property opened in May 2023 under the Impression by Secrets brand.

The resort features 123 suites and caters exclusively to adults, operating an all-inclusive concept positioned in the luxury segment.

According to Hyatt, the brand change will not involve any alteration to this operating model. Guests will continue to benefit from the Endless Privileges offering, which brings together a range of inclusive services available at certain upscale all-inclusive resorts within the group.

The announcement does not indicate any change of ownership, real estate transaction or investment amount associated with the repositioning.

The Unbound Collection welcomes an all-inclusive property

The distinctive feature of this move lies in bringing together two different brand approaches.

On the one hand, Impression by Secrets is a luxury all-inclusive resort brand whose commercial proposition is built around a comprehensive package of integrated services.

On the other, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brings together properties selected for their identity, history and distinctive character, without imposing uniformity in architecture or guest experience.

By incorporating Impression Isla Mujeres into the collection, Hyatt can therefore preserve the property’s commercial offering while positioning it within a brand that places greater emphasis on its individuality.

Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury at Hyatt, explains:

“Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women, has long been associated with Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of fertility, healing and the moon. This history, together with the property’s seamless integration into its natural surroundings, makes it a particularly suitable destination for couples seeking a romantic getaway.”

She adds:

“As we celebrate ten years of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, I am delighted to welcome a resort that so clearly embodies this spirit of individuality and to introduce more travellers to this very special part of Mexico.”

A luxury offering centred on privacy and experience

Impression Isla Mujeres comprises 123 suites, all featuring private terraces, with several offering views over the Caribbean Sea.

The property offers infinity pools, private Mayan-inspired plunge pools and wellness facilities recently enhanced with equipment for yoga, functional training and relaxation.

Its food and beverage offering comprises seven restaurants and five bars and lounges, serving Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean and pan-Asian cuisine.

The resort also features PURE Spa, offering treatments, hydrotherapy, massages, a hammam and relaxation areas.

In 2026, the property received the AAA Five Diamond distinction, awarded to selected hotels meeting the highest standards of the AAA evaluation programme.

Mourad Essafi, General Manager of Impression Isla Mujeres, emphasises the continuity of the resort’s positioning:

“From the outset, our ambition has been to shape this resort around the exceptional environment of Isla Mujeres while building authentic connections with our guests. Joining The Unbound Collection by Hyatt recognises the distinctive identity we have sought to develop.”

He confirms that the property will continue operating according to the luxury all-inclusive hospitality standards its guests have come to expect.

Emphasising a distinctive local identity

Hyatt highlights the property’s connections with its cultural and natural surroundings.

Located near Punta Sur, home to an ancient sanctuary associated with the Mayan goddess Ixchel, the resort incorporates contributions from several artists and architectural figures.

Among those named are Mexican artist César López Negrete, architect Javier Uma and marine-life artist Wyland.

The property also supports the protection of marine ecosystems through a partnership with the Saving Our Sharks Foundation.

According to Hyatt, a portion of room revenue has been allocated to the organisation since the resort opened in 2023.

The partnership includes educational excursions, scientific shark-monitoring activities and initiatives designed to help fishing communities develop alternative sources of income.

Ten years of development for The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Established in 2016, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026.

The collection has recently welcomed several international properties, including:

  • THE BARAI HUA HIN, Thailand;
  • Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée, Nice;
  • The Georgian, Santa Monica;
  • Hotel 1000, Seattle;
  • The Clayfield, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.

In Argentina, Casa Duhau, in Mendoza, is expected to join the collection towards the end of 2027.

The addition of Impression Isla Mujeres therefore brings a property to the collection whose all-inclusive concept represents a significant element of its commercial proposition.

As of 30 September 2026, Hyatt reported a portfolio of more than 1,500 hotels and all-inclusive properties across 84 countries.

LTH Analysis | Hyatt evolves its brand positioning without changing the product

The strategic significance of this move lies in the distinction between the brand under which a hotel is marketed and its underlying operating business model.

By transferring Impression Isla Mujeres from Impression by Secrets to The Unbound Collection, Hyatt is changing the property’s brand positioning while retaining the all-inclusive services that define its offering.

This approach allows the group to place greater emphasis on the property’s individual identity without requiring changes to the way it operates.

For owners and operators, this type of repositioning raises several considerations: commercial visibility, the contribution of distribution channels, perceptions of pricing and the alignment between brand promise and guest experience.

The question is whether membership of a luxury collection will enable Impression Isla Mujeres to broaden its customer base or strengthen its perceived value without compromising the commercial advantages of its all-inclusive model.

However, the announcement provides no quantified performance targets or indication of the expected impact on average daily rate or RevPAR.
