United States | Sonesta Partners with Boyd Gaming, Adding 19 Casino Hotels and 9,700 Rooms to Its Distribution Network

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation and Boyd Gaming Corporation have announced an exclusive strategic partnership that will bring 19 US casino hotels, representing more than 9,700 rooms, onto Sonesta's distribution platform. Beyond hotel distribution, the agreement opens the door to potential integration of the companies' loyalty programmes and future hotel development opportunities, including projects under Sonesta brands.

Sonesta expands its network without acquiring real estate

On 2 November 2026, Sonesta International Hotels Corporation and Boyd Gaming Corporation announced an exclusive strategic affiliation designed to bring their hospitality operations, distribution networks and loyalty programmes closer together.

The first phase of the agreement involves the creation of the Boyd Collection, comprising 19 casino hotels operated by Boyd Gaming across the United States.

The portfolio represents:

  • More than 9,700 guestrooms;
  • Approximately 55,700 sq m of meeting and event space, equivalent to 600,000 sq ft;
  • 19 properties across several regional US markets.

The participating hotels will be integrated into Sonesta’s distribution platform and featured within its brand portfolio on Sonesta.com.

They will also retain their existing distribution channels.

The affiliation therefore does not constitute an acquisition of the properties by Sonesta. The announcement makes no reference to any transfer of ownership or immediate rebranding.

Through the Boyd Collection, Sonesta is expanding its offering into a segment combining accommodation, entertainment, restaurants, meetings and casino activities.

The participating properties include several Las Vegas hotels, notably The Orleans Hotel and Casino, Gold Coast Hotel and Casino, Suncoast Hotel and Casino and Fremont Hotel & Casino.

The portfolio also extends to other US markets, including Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City, Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles, Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa and Valley Forge Casino Resort.

For Boyd Gaming, the integration is expected to provide additional exposure to Sonesta customers and visitors to its booking website.

For Sonesta, it represents an expansion of the accommodation available through its platform without requiring the immediate construction or acquisition of additional properties.

Keith Pierce, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Sonesta International Hotels, states:

“This affiliation represents another important milestone in our asset-right, franchise-focused growth strategy. By partnering with Boyd, we are creating new opportunities to serve our guests and extend our commercial reach in markets where travellers are looking for experiences that combine full-service hospitality, entertainment and casinos.”

Distribution as the first stage of a broader partnership

The agreement initially centres on marketing Boyd properties through Sonesta’s distribution channels.

However, the two groups intend to explore additional forms of cooperation.

The first concerns their loyalty programmes.

Sonesta and Boyd are considering linking their respective programmes, Sonesta Travel Pass and Boyd Rewards, to offer members new opportunities for recognition and benefits.

The arrangements for this integration, its timetable and any rules governing the conversion or redemption of points have not yet been disclosed.

The second area of cooperation concerns hotel development.

Hotel conversions and new-build projects under consideration

Sonesta and Boyd Gaming plan to examine hotel development opportunities associated with Boyd’s existing properties and future projects.

Several possibilities have been outlined:

  • Converting existing properties to a Sonesta brand;
  • Rebranding selected hotels;
  • Developing new-build hotel properties.

These possibilities remain exploratory. No specific project, opening timetable or financial commitment has been announced.

For Sonesta, they could nevertheless contribute to its franchise development pipeline.

For Boyd Gaming, they would provide additional options for maximising the value of its real estate assets and diversifying its accommodation activities.

Phil Hugh, Chief Development Officer of Sonesta International Hotels, highlights these two dimensions:

“Our guests want more choice, recognition and opportunities to make their travels more rewarding. Our relationship with Boyd provides a platform to bring hospitality and entertainment together in a differentiated way, while creating new opportunities for franchise growth and development.”

Boyd Gaming seeks to broaden its customer base beyond traditional channels

For Boyd Gaming, the principal attraction of the agreement lies in gaining access to an additional hotel distribution network.

The group, which has operated in the casino and entertainment sectors for more than fifty years, manages a portfolio of regional destinations across the United States.

Integration with Sonesta is intended to help Boyd reach travellers who do not necessarily use its existing distribution channels.

Keith Smith, President & CEO of Boyd Gaming, explains:

“Our exclusive affiliation with Sonesta represents an exciting opportunity to broaden our customer base across the country by introducing Sonesta customers to our hospitality and entertainment offering.”

The partnership could facilitate the marketing of Boyd properties to guests seeking leisure stays, business accommodation or destinations for meetings and events.

LTH Analysis | Sonesta turns distribution into a hotel development lever

The strategic significance of this agreement extends beyond adding 9,700 rooms to a booking platform.

Sonesta is using its distribution network as an entry point into a partnership that could generate future franchise agreements.

The approach is progressive: integrate Boyd properties into its commercial ecosystem, bring the loyalty programmes closer together, and subsequently explore brand conversions or new hotel developments.

For Boyd, the affiliation provides an opportunity to test the benefits of working with an international hotel group without immediately changing the identity or operation of its properties.

For Sonesta, it offers the prospect of commercial expansion with potentially limited initial capital requirements, while creating privileged access to an existing real estate portfolio.

The central question will therefore be whether this commercial cooperation can evolve into franchise agreements and additional hotel development projects.

At this stage, no quantified development targets, expected financial contribution or timetable for integrating the loyalty programmes have been announced.
