Recent experience in Swiss alpine hospitality

Since September 2023, Lorenz Maurer has served as Area General Manager at Beaumier Grand Hotel Belvédère in Wengen, in the Bernese Oberland.

These two appointments provide professional continuity with his forthcoming role in Andermatt, another Swiss mountain destination investing in the development of its tourism and hotel offering.

An international career spanning the United States, Germany and Switzerland

Before returning to the Swiss hotel industry, Lorenz Maurer held several senior operational positions within international hospitality groups.

Between 2019 and 2021, he served as Director of Operations for NinetyNine Hotels, part of Centro Hotel Group, in the Hamburg region.

He had previously been Director of Hotel Operations at 25hours Hotels between May 2018 and April 2019.

In the United States, he notably held the position of General Manager at Proper Hospitality in San Francisco from September 2016 to February 2018.

His career also includes almost nine years with Joie de Vivre Hotels / Two Roads Hospitality, where he held several senior management positions, including Area Managing Director in San Francisco and General Manager of The Epiphany Hotel Palo Alto.

He had previously managed several California properties, including Hotel Rex in San Francisco and Acqua Hotel in Mill Valley.

His early hospitality experience dates back to the beginning of the 2000s, notably at the Westin Palo Alto, Sheraton Palo Alto and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Zurich.

The Alpinist: an experienced operations executive entrusted with the pre-opening phase

Lorenz Maurer’s appointment comes at a pivotal stage in the development of The Alpinist.

The selection of an executive with experience in both international lifestyle hospitality and Swiss alpine properties appears consistent with the operational requirements of a forthcoming five-star mountain resort hotel.

Preparing to open a property in this segment involves defining its service positioning, recruiting and training teams, and coordinating operations ahead of welcoming its first guests.

With his appointment scheduled twelve months before opening, Lorenz Maurer will have a dedicated preparation period to oversee the new property’s transition into operation.
