Fairfield by Marriott makes its debut in Thailand
Marriott International continues to expand its Asia-Pacific portfolio with the opening of Fairfield by Marriott Krabi Ao Nang Beach, the brand’s first property in Thailand.
Situated in the heart of Ao Nang, the hotel benefits from a location close to the seaside resort’s shops, restaurants and main entertainment areas.
It also provides convenient access to departure points for boat excursions to Railay Bay and the Phi Phi Islands, two of the region’s best-known tourist destinations.
Krabi International Airport is approximately 27 kilometres away.
The location is consistent with Fairfield’s strategy of providing functional accommodation, standardised service and an experience suited to both leisure and business travellers.
Cristiano Rinaldi, Chief Lodging Product & Services Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, at Marriott International, emphasises the significance of the opening:
“The arrival of Fairfield by Marriott in Thailand represents an important milestone in our ambition to expand the brand into more destinations across Asia-Pacific. Fairfield is built around the things travellers value most: a warm welcome, reliable service and spaces designed to help them maintain their routines while travelling. In Krabi, this offering also benefits from an ideal location from which to explore the destination.”
The opening comes less than a month after Marriott International’s agreement with FICO Corporation for seven hotel projects in Thailand, covering several brands and segments, from midscale to luxury.
218 rooms and suites across six categories
Fairfield by Marriott Krabi Ao Nang Beach features 218 rooms and suites across six categories.
Accommodation ranges from 24 to 48 sq m, including rooms overlooking the gardens or swimming pool, as well as options offering direct pool access.
Guestrooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, workspaces and amenities designed to meet the needs of different traveller profiles.
Several room configurations cater to couples, families and groups of friends.
The property also features two outdoor swimming pools, a waterslide for younger guests and a 24-hour fitness centre.
A dining offering tailored to leisure travellers
The hotel’s food and beverage offering comprises several venues.
The main restaurant serves a breakfast buffet combining local and international specialities.
Breeze Café & Bistro offers Thai and international cuisine for lunch and dinner, alongside an evening entertainment programme.
Style Bar serves cocktails, particularly in the early evening, while S Bar provides drinks and light refreshments near the swimming pool.
This configuration reflects the property’s positioning: a relatively comprehensive range of services, without the facilities and amenities typically associated with luxury resorts.
Kritchanut Phramthong leads the property
Operational management is overseen by Kritchanut Phramthong, Multi-Property General Manager of Fairfield by Marriott Krabi Ao Nang Beach.
He emphasises the simplicity of the guest experience and the quality of the welcome:
“Our aim is to provide a warm and uncomplicated stay, where travellers can feel comfortable, maintain their routines and discover everything Ao Nang and Krabi have to offer. From the guestrooms to the dining and leisure spaces, every element of the hotel has been designed to make travel easier.”
The announcement does not specify which other properties, if any, fall under his responsibility as Multi-Property General Manager.
Fairfield is Marriott’s largest brand by number of properties
With more than 1,395 properties across 20 countries and territories, according to figures provided by Marriott, Fairfield is the group’s largest brand by hotel count.
Part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, the brand operates in the select-service segment, characterised by a standardised offering, functional amenities and an emphasis on consistency in the guest experience.
Its introduction in Thailand broadens Marriott’s presence in a market where the group already operates several brands, particularly in the upscale and luxury segments.
The announcement does not disclose the property’s real estate owner, its contractual operating structure or the investment amount.
LTH Analysis | Marriott expands its Thai footprint beyond upscale hospitality
The opening of Fairfield by Marriott Krabi Ao Nang Beach illustrates Marriott’s portfolio diversification strategy in Thailand.
In Krabi itself, Marriott recently opened Four Points by Sheraton Krabi Ao Nang Beach Resort, a 173-room property, as reported in our global hospitality news round-up of 2 November. The two openings demonstrate the group’s intention to expand its presence across this seaside destination.
In a tourism market historically associated with upscale resorts, the introduction of Fairfield enables the group to strengthen its offering at a potentially more accessible service and price level than its premium and luxury brands.
For Marriott, the benefits are twofold: reaching a broader range of customer segments and strengthening Marriott Bonvoy’s presence in an international leisure destination.
For hotel investors, select-service brands can offer operating models that differ from those of traditional resorts, particularly in terms of staffing, food and beverage operations and operating costs.
Nevertheless, their performance depends on location, pricing strategy and the ability to maintain occupancy levels suited to the market’s seasonal characteristics.
With this first Fairfield property in Krabi, Marriott adds another brand to its Thai portfolio and continues its strategy of expanding its coverage across different hospitality segments.
