Accor has announced the signing of the Fairmont Rishikesh Himalayas, a new luxury resort that will add to the group’s portfolio in India. The project, developed in partnership with Indian developer Javi Group, is planned for the Shivpuri region in Rishikesh, in the state of Uttarakhand, with an opening scheduled for 2031.

A luxury resort at the foot of the Himalayas

Fairmont Rishikesh Himalayas will span approximately 6.5 hectares on the banks of the Ganges, facing the Himalayan foothills. The property will feature 220 guestrooms, four restaurants, a spa, a gym, a swimming pool and a kids’ club. Its events offering will be supported by 3,000 sqm of space dedicated to seminars, weddings and MICE events.

The resort’s design will draw on the region’s natural environment and cultural heritage, aiming to blend into the landscape rather than break with it.

Rishikesh, a fast-growing tourism destination

A holy city long associated with yoga, meditation and wellness, Rishikesh attracts an international clientele in search of spiritual experiences and rejuvenation. Its connectivity with Delhi NCR has also made it, in recent years, a popular destination for adventure tourism, short breaks, weddings and corporate events.

Marriott International, through Le Méridien, recently opened a resort in Dehradun, positioned as a gateway to Rishikesh, Mussoorie and Haridwar, confirming the growing interest of major hotel groups in this part of the Indian Himalayas. The Oberoi Group, for its part, had announced the opening of two hotel complexes in Rishikesh itself, illustrating the growing luxury offering in a destination still underserved by upscale properties.

Fairmont continues its expansion in India

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Accor’s luxury brand founded in 1907, today counts more than 90 properties worldwide, including The Plaza in New York, The Savoy in London, the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai and the Fairmont Royal Palm in Marrakech. In India, the brand is already present with Fairmont Jaipur, Fairmont Mumbai and Fairmont Udaipur, and is preparing new openings in Shimla Fagu, Goa and Agra.

Ranju Alex, CEO of Accor for South Asia, commented on the signing: “The signing of the Fairmont Rishikesh Himalayas marks another significant step in the strategic growth of the Fairmont brand in India. Rishikesh, where spirituality, wellness and immersive travel converge, is one of the country’s most compelling destinations. This initiative reflects our commitment to bringing exceptional hospitality to places that offer authentic, meaningful experiences, while strengthening our premium portfolio in the region.”

Javi Group, a partner diversifying its business

For Javi Group, the project marks a step in the diversification of its activities, now committed to developing a dedicated hospitality arm. Vibhor Jain, Director of Javi Home Pvt. Ltd., said: “We are delighted to partner with Accor to bring the Fairmont brand to Rishikesh. This destination holds considerable long-term potential, and Fairmont’s tradition of refined hospitality sits naturally alongside the site’s natural beauty, spiritual heritage and growing appeal to a discerning clientele. With this project, we hope to establish a landmark address that will raise the standard of luxury hospitality in Uttarakhand.”

A strategic market for Accor in India

Accor currently operates 75 hotels across India and South Asia, spanning luxury, midscale and economy segments under around ten brands, including Raffles, Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, ibis and ibis Styles. Ennismore, the group’s lifestyle division, has also been active in the market since the opening of Roswyn, a Morgans Originals hotel in Mumbai.

This expansion is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the group’s position in the Indian market, with the partnership recently formed with InterGlobe to accelerate its development in the country serving as a further recent example. Globally, Accor is present in more than 110 countries with close to 5,800 hotels and resorts, under more than 45 brands ranging from luxury to economy.

The Goldman Sachs Group announced on 18 August 2026 the acquisition of LCN Capital Partners, a platform specialising in sale & leaseback transactions, for a consideration of up to €351M ($410M). The deal gives Goldman Sachs Asset Management a specific area of expertise - the resale of corporate real estate while preserving its use through a long-term lease - after two years marked by high interest rates that curbed investment in physical real estate. For the hospitality sector, the acquisition is also a reminder that LCN held exclusive talks in 2025 to buy nine Silken hotels in Spain, before ultimately being outbid by Hotusa.
