Accor has announced the appointment of Alessandro Mortillaro as General Manager of the Admiral Hotel Manila, MGallery Collection, in the Philippines. The executive takes up his new role in August 2026, after four years and seven months leading Sofitel London Heathrow, one of the United Kingdom’s most recognised airport hotels.
The first property of the MGallery brand in the Philippines, Admiral Hotel Manila celebrates the golden age of the Philippine capital through architecture blending Filipino-Spanish influences with Art Deco aesthetics. Located on Roxas Boulevard overlooking Manila Bay, the property has established itself since opening as one of the city’s leading lifestyle addresses.
A career built between Asia and Europe
Alessandro Mortillaro brings more than twenty-five years of international hospitality experience, gained across both managed and independent properties, spanning large-scale commercial hotels, integrated resorts and upscale lifestyle properties. His career has taken him to mainland China, Macau, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Before joining Admiral Hotel Manila, he led Sofitel London Heathrow, a 605-room property with two restaurants recognised by two AA Rosettes, a 1,300 sq m ballroom and 45 meeting rooms. Under his leadership, the hotel was named the world’s best airport hotel at the British Business Traveller Awards for the 2020–2024 period, and received TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award in 2023 and 2024.
His career also includes more than a decade at Marriott International, where he held general management and operational governance roles. He notably took part in the pre-opening team of the Sheraton Grand Macao, a 4,001-room integrated resort named Marriott International’s Asia-Pacific Hotel of the Year in 2016, before going on to serve as General Manager of JW Marriott Zhengzhou in China, ranked among the group’s top fifty hotels for GOP and EBITDA performance in Greater China.
Alessandro Mortillaro also spent eight years contributing to the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Rooms Council at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, as cluster leader. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Hospitality and Catering Management from Nottingham Trent University.
Manila, a strategic market for international hospitality
The appointment comes as Manila’s hotel market sees renewed and marked interest from major international groups. IHG has announced the return of the InterContinental brand to the Philippine capital by 2032, while Hilton has signed the country’s first Canopy by Hilton in Makati, due to open in 2026. Against this backdrop of growth in the lifestyle and luxury segment, Admiral Hotel Manila retains a distinctive position as the flagship of the MGallery collection in the archipelago.
