IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of a franchise agreement for the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera, marking a new milestone in the development of its midscale conversion brand in India. The 40-key property, due to open in 2029, will be developed by Devpriya Buildcon and operated by United Hospitality Management (UHM) India, one of the group’s trusted third-party operating partners in the country.

The signing represents the Garner brand’s first entry into Ahmedabad and reflects owners’ confidence in the brand’s conversion model, as IHG continues its development across high-potential Indian markets.

A strategic location at the Motera-Sabarmati junction

The Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera will be located at the Motera-Sabarmati junction in northern Ahmedabad, close to several major demand drivers: the Narendra Modi Stadium, the future Sabarmati Bullet Train hub, and several surrounding business districts.

The hotel will form part of a mixed-use development comprising retail outlets, banquet facilities, dining options and a hospital, creating an integrated offering for both business travellers and city visitors.

Garner, a driver of IHG’s conversion growth

Garner, the fastest-growing midscale conversion brand in IHG’s portfolio, builds on the group’s positioning in the essentials segment, offering accessible, functional stays. The brand focuses on the fundamentals travellers expect: a convenient location, a good night’s sleep and a solid breakfast, while benefiting from IHG’s quality standards, corporate systems and loyalty ecosystem.

Launched globally in recent times, the brand continues its expansion across several continents, with a flexible conversion model that is attracting a growing number of owners and developers.

Sudeep Jain, Managing Director South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said Ahmedabad continues to establish itself as a major commercial and infrastructure hub, driven by sustained economic activity and developing connectivity. He noted that the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera represents a significant addition to IHG’s growth strategy in India and reflects the appeal of the brand’s model for high-potential markets, adding that the signing reinforces the group’s commitment to delivering reliable, quality stays that meet the expectations of today’s value-conscious travellers.

A strengthened partnership with United Hospitality Management

The signing deepens the relationship between IHG and United Hospitality Management India, which supports the growth of the group’s portfolio by contributing operational expertise, owner-focused management solutions and internationally branded hotel experiences across key markets in the country.

Deepika Arora, Managing Director of United Hospitality Management India, said UHM was delighted to continue strengthening its partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts through the signing of the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera. She added that every new signing reflects the confidence owners place in the combination of IHG’s globally recognised brand strength and UHM’s local operational expertise, and that the company’s priority remains delivering operational excellence, improving long-term asset performance and creating memorable guest experiences.

Prashant Thakkar, Partner at Devpriya Buildcon, added that Ahmedabad’s economic growth, infrastructure development and rising tourism demand make it an attractive market for branded hospitality. He said that partnering with IHG Hotels & Resorts and United Hospitality Management to bring Garner to Motera aligns with the company’s vision of developing assets suited to modern travellers.

Ahmedabad, a fast-developing market for branded hospitality

Ahmedabad ranks among India’s major economic and industrial centres, with strong positions in pharmaceuticals, textiles, information technology, infrastructure and corporate headquarters. Ongoing investment in sporting and transport infrastructure is further boosting the city’s hotel demand.

The signing adds to IHG’s existing Ahmedabad portfolio, which already includes the Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre and the Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad Prahlad Nagar, with a Holiday Inn Ahmedabad also in the group’s pipeline.
