40Hammocks: Automating bookings for groups of ten rooms or more
INTRAVEL has announced the acquisition of 40Hammocks, a technology company providing group booking management solutions, primarily for destination weddings and private or corporate events.
The platform particularly targets bookings involving ten rooms or more, a segment that is still frequently handled manually by event organisers, travel agents and hotels.
Its technology already centralises several processes: accommodation sourcing, access to negotiated rates, creation of personalised booking links, room-block tracking, event space reservations and the management of benefits offered to attendees.
The acquirer plans to develop these capabilities under a new commercial identity, Groupr, with a complete relaunch announced for early 2027.
The acquisition price and financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Groupr: A platform for small groups, MICE and wedding planners
INTRAVEL aims to address a structural challenge in the small-group market: the gap between the complexity of commercial processes and the tools available to intermediaries.
Large corporations and major event organisers have long used specialised hotel sourcing and contract management platforms.
For smaller groups, however, the cost of some professional solutions can be prohibitive.
Organisers therefore continue to rely on numerous telephone calls and emails to obtain proposals, compare properties, negotiate rates and terms, finalise contracts and track reservations.
Groupr intends to automate part of this workflow, from identifying suitable properties through to managing attendees.
Further developments are planned by the end of 2026, including the automation of searches for private dining and event spaces in restaurants.
The objective is to enable professionals to handle more group bookings without proportionately increasing their administrative resources.
Dual distribution: An open B2B marketplace and the InteleTravel network
The commercial strategy is based on two complementary distribution channels.
The first is an open B2B marketplace targeting MICE organisers, wedding planners and travel advisers, whether or not they belong to the InteleTravel network.
The second involves integrating Groupr into InteleTravel’s existing platforms, making the solution available to its 145,000 travel advisers, according to the figure disclosed in connection with the acquisition.
This dual approach would allow INTRAVEL to market Groupr as a standalone solution while benefiting from a particularly substantial established distribution network.
James Ferrara, Managing Partner of INTRAVEL and Chairman of Groupr’s Board of Directors, describes the acquisition as a response to a segment that has long been underserved by major technology platforms.
Kim Andreello, Managing Director of Groupr and Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development at InteleTravel, emphasises that automation should enable organisers to manage more groups while reducing repetitive tasks.
40Hammocks co-founders Mina Singson-Brightman and Sebastian Borys will remain involved in the project as board members and partners.
The 40Hammocks team has also joined Groupr to ensure technological continuity and support the platform’s development.
An acquisition strategy extending beyond leisure travel
The acquisition of 40Hammocks follows several initiatives announced by InteleTravel in 2026.

This succession of initiatives reflects an ambition to complement the company’s established travel distribution model with technology services covering business travel, events and group bookings.
InteleTravel has also announced a forecast of US$1.875 billion in worldwide travel sales for 2026, alongside an ambition to expand its network to 170,000 advisers. These figures are projections and should not be interpreted as consolidated results.
What are the implications for hoteliers?
For hotels, the growing adoption of solutions such as Groupr could change the way enquiries from medium-sized groups are handled.
This segment presents a particular commercial opportunity: it can generate several dozen room-nights and ancillary revenue, notably from food and beverage and event space hire, without necessarily justifying the negotiation processes used for major conferences.
Automating requests for proposals, room-block tracking and individual reservations could reduce some of the administrative workload faced by hotel sales and events teams.
It could also make it easier for hotels to access enquiries generated by travel advisers or organisers who do not have specialised professional tools.
However, several aspects remain to be clarified: the terms under which hotels will access the platform, any applicable commissions, rate negotiation arrangements and potential integration with hotel property management systems.
LTH Analysis | AI becomes a driver of consolidation in MICE distribution
INTRAVEL’s acquisition of 40Hammocks illustrates an important development in hotel distribution: artificial intelligence is no longer being used solely to assist travel searches, but increasingly to automate entire commercial processes.
The small-group segment is particularly attractive. It combines a higher transaction value than an individual booking with substantial administrative requirements. Standardising hotel sourcing, commercial proposals and room-block management can therefore generate productivity gains for intermediaries.
For INTRAVEL, the strategic opportunity is twofold: acquiring specialised technology and immediately deploying it through an existing distribution network. Combining a proprietary tool with 145,000 potential adviser users provides a commercial development advantage that an independent start-up may not possess.
From a hotelier’s perspective, the benefits are more nuanced. Automation may improve enquiry conversion rates and shorten response times, but it could also strengthen the negotiating power of platforms that concentrate booking volumes.
The central question will be how value is shared: will the productivity gains benefit organisers, distributors, hotels or all three?
With Groupr, INTRAVEL is doing more than adding another software product to its portfolio. The group is seeking a position within a part of the hotel distribution chain that has, until now, largely been managed through direct exchanges between organisers and properties.
