Accor and its operating partner CIC Hospitality opened the Mercure Gothenburg on 17 August 2026, the brand’s first hotel in Sweden. The waterfront property also marks the French hotel group’s second site in the country and strengthens Mercure’s presence along the Scandinavian coastline.

A Waterfront Location, Gateway to Gothenburg

The Mercure Gothenburg sits directly on the quaysides, visible to travellers arriving on ferry services from Germany and Denmark. The Nya Varvsallén tram stop is a fifteen-minute walk away, connecting the hotel to the city centre in a further fifteen minutes or so.

This location allows the property to position itself both as a gateway for international visitors and as a convenient base for exploring the city’s maritime heritage, culinary scene and Scandinavian way of life.

CIC Hospitality to Operate the New Property

The hotel is run by CIC Hospitality under a franchise agreement with Accor, a structure that brings international visibility, distribution and loyalty benefits while preserving the property’s local character. Matthias Tanski, CEO of CIC Hospitality, said the waterfront project in Gothenburg embodied Mercure’s philosophy of cultural rootedness and connection to the destination, and formed part of a broader partnership with Accor. He added that the collaboration would continue with the opening of the first Mercure Living in Heide, Germany, due in early 2027.

She added that Mercure had proven particularly appealing to owners seeking to combine strong international standards with the flexibility to reflect the character of their destination, and that Accor intended to deepen its partnership with CIC Hospitality in the years ahead.

An Offering Designed for Business and Leisure Guests

The Mercure Gothenburg offers 101 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a modern fitness centre, and five flexible meeting and event rooms. Limited on-site parking is available, complemented by nearby parking spaces.

The Goldman Sachs Group announced on 18 August 2026 the acquisition of LCN Capital Partners, a platform specialising in sale & leaseback transactions, for a consideration of up to €351M ($410M). The deal gives Goldman Sachs Asset Management a specific area of expertise - the resale of corporate real estate while preserving its use through a long-term lease - after two years marked by high interest rates that curbed investment in physical real estate. For the hospitality sector, the acquisition is also a reminder that LCN held exclusive talks in 2025 to buy nine Silken hotels in Spain, before ultimately being outbid by Hotusa.
