Hilton has announced the appointment of Sean Clancy as General Manager of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, a 1,190-room property adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center. The executive, whose hospitality career spans more than thirty years, takes up his new role in August 2026 after seven years leading another major asset in San Diego Bay.

A career forged in international luxury hospitality

Sean Clancy will oversee all operations at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, including the guest experience, team engagement and the property’s commercial performance. He joins the hotel with a track record of managing large-scale hotel complexes and resorts, both in the United States and internationally.

He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of the Sheraton San Diego Resort, operated by Peregrine Hospitality. Leading the property from August 2019 to August 2026, he oversaw its repositioning following a $127 million (approximately €117 million) renovation.

Loews Hotels, Waldorf Astoria and Ritz-Carlton: a career trajectory dating back to 1993

Before joining Peregrine Hospitality, Sean Clancy led several properties within the Loews Hotels & Co group. He served as General Manager of the Loews Coronado Bay Resort from 2015 to 2019, where he oversaw a portfolio of 440 rooms and an 81-slip marina spanning more than 6 hectares, before delivering $19 million (approximately €17.5 million) in capital investment projects, including the renovation of the property’s dining outlets and a redesign of the exterior façade.

He had previously led the Loews Philadelphia Hotel between 2013 and 2015, where he oversaw a renovation of more than $30 million (approximately €27.6 million) covering 583 rooms and more than 4,450 m² of meeting space, as well as the opening of the Bank & Bourbon restaurant. He then served as Hotel Manager of the Loews Miami Beach Hotel from 2012 to 2013 — a run of appointments reminiscent of one recently seen at Roissy, where the Hampton by Hilton Paris CDG entrusted its general management to Mohamed Rhazouani following a career across several properties in the Paris region.

Sean Clancy began his general management career at the Boca Beach Club, the flagship property of the Boca Raton Resort & Club operated under the Waldorf Astoria brand, where he relaunched the establishment following a $95 million (approximately €87.4 million) renovation. He had previously spent seven years at the Arizona Biltmore, also a Waldorf Astoria-branded property during his tenure — a brand that has itself recently refreshed its leadership in Europe, notably with the appointment of Bill Fisher as General Manager of the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. During his time at the Arizona Biltmore, Clancy notably led the opening of the Frank & Albert’s restaurant, an $8 million (approximately €7.4 million) investment that generated $4.5 million (approximately €4.1 million) in revenue in its first year alone. His early career, from 1993 to 2004, was spent with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, where he successively held the roles of Rooms Operations Manager and Assistant Executive Manager, Rooms.

Education and involvement in San Diego’s hospitality ecosystem

Sean Clancy holds a Master Certificate in hotel management as well as training in hotel real estate and asset management from Cornell University, complemented by a Master Certificate in leadership and management from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business. He has also served on the boards of several local organisations, including the San Diego County Lodging Association.

His appointment comes amid a wave of general manager changes across Hilton’s US portfolio, as the group continues to evolve leadership at its major urban convention hotels.

Employment Law, France 🇫🇷 | Wrong Signatory Voids Dismissal : Cour de Cassation Sets a Rule That Also Applies to Hospitality

On 1 April 2026, France's Cour de cassation confirmed that a dismissal letter signed by the HR manager of another company within the employer's group was without real and serious cause, in the absence of proof of her authority over the subsidiary concerned. The Court also partially quashed the ruling on a separate point, leaving the door open to additional sums. The case involves an automotive distribution group, but the principle established is directly relevant to hotel groups, which are often structured with multiple subsidiaries and shared HR functions.
