Park Hyatt Sydney has appointed Bastian Germer as its new General Manager. The German executive brings more than thirty years of experience in international luxury hospitality. His appointment, effective from August 2026, marks his move to Australia after several years based in New York.

A Change of Continent After Four Years in New York

Bastian Germer had served since April 2021 as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad, a 250-room property in Manhattan that he had guided through its pre-opening. He joined the hotel in 2022 following a stint of more than three years at the helm of The New York EDITION.

His departure from New York, where he will have spent nearly nine consecutive years across two leading properties, opens a new chapter in the Australian market, at a hotel whose positioning differs markedly from the North American urban addresses he has led to date.

A Career Built Over Three Decades in International Luxury

Trained at the Hotel Academy in Hamburg, his home city, Bastian Germer began his hospitality career in 1995 before joining the InterContinental Los Angeles, then the Frankfurt Marriott Hotel around the turn of the millennium. His career then took him to the Four Seasons Resort Maldives, where he served as Launch Manager, followed by several leadership roles in Singapore, including at IndoChine Singapore and the New Majestic Hotel & Hotel 1929.

He went on to lead operations at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London, before joining the Ritz-Carlton group, where he held management positions in Osaka and then Toronto. His career has thus spanned four continents, from the Maldives to North America, taking in Asia and Europe along the way. He supplemented his management training with the General Managers Program at Cornell Nanyang Institute in Singapore, followed by the Ascent Leadership Program at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

His appointment in Sydney forms part of a wider pattern of leadership moves across the Park Hyatt portfolio, with several properties having recently seen changes at General Manager level, including Park Hyatt Milan, Park Hyatt Dubai and Park Hyatt Zurich.

Park Hyatt Sydney, an Iconic Harbourside Address

Located in the historic Rocks district, directly on Sydney Harbour, the property has 158 rooms and suites and enjoys a prime position facing the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The hotel has undergone a complete renovation, which included the creation of a new floor of fully glazed suites offering unobstructed views over the bay.

Asked about his appointment, Bastian Germer said he did not take lightly the responsibility of leading a hotel positioned on the harbour. He noted that, in his view, the hotel reflects the city’s understated elegance and its sense of place, combining calm, aesthetics and attention to detail, and said he was particularly pleased to be joining this history and this community.

In his new role, Bastian Germer will oversee the hotel’s entire operations, with priorities including guest experience, company culture and team development.
