IHG Hotels & Resorts is taking a further step in its guest wellbeing strategy. The InterContinental brand has announced the expansion of its global partnership with Timeshifter, the leading app for managing jet lag, across its entire portfolio: 242 hotels and resorts in nearly 70 countries.

In practice, every InterContinental guest now benefits from free access to a personalised plan for tackling time-zone fatigue, for both outbound and return journeys. The scheme is aimed equally at guests staying at a property for the first time and at the brand’s loyal clientele. The rollout confirms the growing role of circadian science in InterContinental’s repositioning strategy, which began back in 2023.

A technology proven by elite athletes

Timeshifter draws on the latest advances in chronobiology to produce individualised recommendations covering light exposure, sleep management and the timing of caffeine intake. The algorithm, already used by astronauts, Olympic athletes, Formula 1 teams and NBA franchises, is tailored to each traveller’s itinerary, chronotype and sleep habits.

Mickey Beyer-Clausen, co-founder and CEO of Timeshifter, notes that circadian clocks govern almost every function of the body, from sleep to metabolism to immunity. In his view, the only way to adapt quickly to a new time zone is to reset the brain’s central clock, which the app makes simple and practical to do.

Guest wellbeing, a pillar of the InterContinental strategy

The expanded partnership forms part of the brand’s Intentional Flexibility programme, a suite of solutions designed to support modern travellers as they move between time zones. Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts, says the aim is to put the right technology in guests’ hands so they can move seamlessly through their day, while reaffirming the brand’s commitment to intuitive service tailored to the needs of luxury travellers.

This direction reflects a broader trend among several hotel groups, which are turning wellbeing and personalised experience into levers of strategic differentiation, as upmarket guests increasingly seek quality over quantity in their stays.

A response served on the plate too

The Timeshifter programme is complemented by a dedicated culinary offering. The Flexible Dining menus rolled out at properties worldwide feature Nourish Bowls and Anytime Plates designed to counter travel fatigue. These dishes draw in particular on eggs rich in vitamin B12, which may help limit melatonin secretion, along with hydrating ingredients and magnesium-rich leafy greens intended to rebalance the mineral levels disrupted by travel.

This approach is part of a wider movement within the hotel industry, where everyday wellbeing is steadily becoming a development pillar in its own right for major international brands.

A feature built into the guest journey

Access to the Timeshifter plan is offered via a QR code placed at several points along the guest journey, both before and during the stay, for every booking made at an InterContinental hotel. The rollout comes as IHG continues to grow its luxury and lifestyle portfolio globally, at a time when guest experience is becoming a central point of differentiation amid an increasingly crowded upscale segment.

Founded in 1946 by Juan Trippe, founder of Pan American Airways, InterContinental is marking its 80th anniversary in 2026 as the world’s first international luxury hotel brand. The group is positioning this partnership as a further illustration of its ambition to reinvent the luxury travel experience around cultural curiosity and guest wellbeing.
