The appointment, effective September 2026, marks a new stage in the career of this Portuguese executive with an international track record.

A return to one of Lisbon’s flagship hotels

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa occupies a central position on the Portuguese capital’s most prestigious thoroughfare, close to the city’s main business and cultural districts. In a message posted on LinkedIn, the new General Manager said he was approaching this new chapter of his career with pride, noting the privilege of leading a hotel with such remarkable heritage and timeless elegance at the heart of Lisbon.

Three years at the helm of Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort

Jason Marques had led the Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort since January 2024, a 12-hectare, 500-room complex with five restaurants, three bars, six swimming pools, a spa, a children’s club and an outdoor sports area. That appointment, previously covered by La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie, marked a return to the Algarve for an executive who had begun his hotel career at the Sheraton Algarve nearly twenty years earlier.

This Lisbon appointment forms part of the continued development of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas in the Portuguese market, where the group operates several brands positioned across distinct segments, including Tivoli Hotels & Resorts for upscale urban and beach properties.

A career built across the Algarve, Algeria and the Indian Ocean

Before joining Minor Hotels, Jason Marques spent several months in 2023 as Senior Manager, Franchise Operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, based in London. In that role he oversaw operations for a portfolio of 116 franchised hotels across Southern Europe, spanning Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Malta and Cyprus.

Between December 2020 and June 2023, he served as General Manager and owner’s representative of the laïla Resort in the Seychelles, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio property, overseeing the development of a portfolio that included a planned 120-room resort, two beach restaurants and two self-catering residences.

His time at Constance Hotels, Resorts and Golf, from December 2018 to March 2020, saw him serve as Resort Manager of the Constance Halaveli in the Maldives, also a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, before returning to the Seychelles with Marriott International as Executive Assistant General Manager of the Méridien Fisherman’s Cove Resort, a post he held until 2018, including a period as interim General Manager that same year.

Foundations laid within the Starwood group

Jason Marques built his early career over nearly fourteen years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts, prior to the group’s integration into Marriott International. He successively held the roles of Director of Rooms at the Sheraton Club des Pins Hotel & Resort in Algiers, leading a team of more than 200 staff at this 419-room property, and then at Le Méridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre in Algeria.

His professional beginnings date back to the Sheraton Algarve, Luxury Collection Hotel & Resort, in Albufeira, where he rose from Night Audit to Front Office Manager, before being promoted to Assistant Front Office Manager at this 579-room property. A certified Six Sigma Green Belt from his time at Le Méridien Oran, he holds a degree in sustainable tourism from INUAF – Instituto Superior Dom Afonso III.

A linguistic and operational profile aligned with international luxury standards

Jason Marques is a native speaker of Portuguese and English, and has full professional proficiency in French and Spanish, an asset in managing the international clientele characteristic of Lisbon’s luxury urban segment. His experience spans the full range of operational functions within an upscale hotel, from owner-investor relations to asset management, as well as financial and commercial leadership.
