A reimagined first class for the domestic market
JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU) unveiled the outlines of BlueFirst™ on 1 September 2026, its new first-class experience for the US domestic network. Bookings will open this autumn, with the first aircraft rollout expected by the end of the year. The offering builds on the carrier’s ongoing JetForward strategy, which aims to strengthen its position in the premium segment.
For Joanna Geraghty, CEO of JetBlue, domestic first class had become a predictable product across the industry. She explains that customers are now looking for more upscale experiences, and that BlueFirst offers a distinctly JetBlue take on the segment, combining thoughtful touches, attentive service and value for money. She sees it as a further concrete expression of the JetForward strategy.
A seat developed with Tuft & Needle
The BlueFirst cabin adopts a 2-2 configuration and features seats developed specifically with bedding brand Tuft & Needle, exclusive to JetBlue. Fitted with T&N Flex™ foam, they offer personalised support and responsive cushioning throughout the flight. Recline reaches 12.7 cm, with legroom increased by up to 17.8 cm compared with the airline’s Main cabin.
Each seat is equipped with a 13.3-inch (33.8 cm) Bluetooth-enabled touchscreen, allowing passengers to connect wireless headphones directly to the new generation of Blueprint by JetBlue™, the carrier’s personalised entertainment platform. These are complemented by USB-A, USB-C and 110V power outlets, as well as full access to Fly-Fi®, JetBlue’s high-speed internet service. On overnight flights, BlueFirst passengers will also receive a blanket and a rest kit.
Dining and ordering direct from the seat
The touchscreen includes an onboard ordering system called “Mixologist Mode”, allowing passengers to build their own cocktail by choosing a spirit, mixer and flavourings, with the order sent directly to the cabin crew. The same screen can also be used to select meals and browse products available on board.
On the dining side, JetBlue is introducing FirstFare, a bento-inspired boxed meal offering. On flights of 1,446.8 km or more, each FirstFare selection pairs a starter, a side and a dessert, with options such as sweet or savoury crêpes, or sesame noodles served with beef or tofu. Rotating premium snacks from brands including Sockerbit, Tosi, Wholesome Bakery, Pop Daddy Snacks and Cape Cod Chips round out the offering depending on the flight and route. On the beverage side, the menu features wines selected by New York’s Parcelle, specialty coffees from Cometeer and Joe Coffee, and Smith Teamaker teas, served in Fable glassware and accompanied by coasters designed with New York illustrator Danielle Rose Fisher.
A smoother passenger journey
BlueFirst customers will benefit from Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead bin space, priority check-in and access to an expedited security lane at more than 30 airports. BlueFirst and BlueFirst Flex fares include no change or cancellation fees, two free checked bags and priority baggage delivery.
According to Joanna Geraghty, traditional first-class dining could feel frozen in time, and BlueFirst is the carrier’s answer to modernising that experience for today’s traveller. She notes that being able to build your own cocktail, order directly from the seatback screen and enjoy responsive comfort makes travel more personal, more modern and more fun, with the conviction that premium should remain accessible without being stuffy.
A premiumisation move that fits a broader industry trend
BlueFirst follows the recent opening of the carrier’s second BlueHouse lounge, inaugurated in Boston, and confirms the strengthening of JetBlue’s premium product portfolio. The airline was also ranked number one in customer satisfaction among first- and business-class passengers in the 2026 JD Power North America Airline Satisfaction Study, for the second consecutive year, while its BlueHouse lounge at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport was named best airport lounge at Newsweek’s 2026 Readers’ Choice™ Awards.
BlueFirst will roll out across all JetBlue domestic markets not served by Mint, the carrier’s business-class offering. Together, Mint and BlueFirst will give travellers more options for a premium JetBlue experience, whether on transcontinental, transatlantic or shorter-haul routes. Further details, including the first routes involved and booking opening dates, will be announced at a later date.
This premiumisation drive fits a broader trend seen in the North American market, where several airlines have this year announced comparable investments in their premium cabins. Airlines reignite the premium seat race, from LATAM to Allegiant to United, a trend whose ripple effects on business and premium travel flows are being closely watched by hospitality professionals.
