Marriott International and LG Electronics have announced a long-term strategic collaboration focused on the in-room guest experience. As the first stage of a broader partnership between the two companies, the initiative brings together LG’s hospitality technology and connected device capabilities with Marriott’s technology infrastructure and guest experience expertise.
The new cloud platform is designed to modernise and standardise the in-room technology environment across Marriott’s global portfolio, which spans more than 10,000 properties across 148 countries and territories. In line with its test-before-scale strategy, the group has chosen to launch the initiative as a pilot programme before considering an international rollout.
Reimagining the television as the gateway to the connected room
The pilot programme covers 40 hotels across the United States and Canada. The stated goal is to transform the in-room television — until now a standalone piece of equipment — into a genuine gateway for a connected experience spanning entertainment, hotel content and room functions.
Drew Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial and Technology Officer at Marriott International, said the collaboration with LG reflects Marriott’s commitment to building technology that elevates the guest experience across its portfolio. He added that by combining LG’s connected device capabilities with Marriott’s hospitality expertise and enterprise platform, the two companies are creating a more seamless, personalised in-room experience while helping hotel teams improve operational efficiency. John Won, Senior Vice President at LG Electronics and head of the company’s US B2B Commercial Display Solutions business, said the primary aim is to make the television an integrated part of the connected room rather than a standalone device. According to him, the platform turns screens into a unified system, bringing together entertainment, hotel content and room functions within a simple, user-friendly interface.
Centralised authentication and remote fleet management
On the technical side, the solution enables centralised authentication and management of the LG televisions and connected set-top boxes installed across participating Marriott hotels, while reducing reliance on traditional on-site video distribution infrastructure. LG’s connected device capabilities are being integrated into Marriott’s infrastructure to lay the groundwork for future smart-room experiences.
Beyond the guest experience, the platform gives Marriott a centralised management environment for its in-room technology. Group teams will be able to monitor the status, performance and operation of televisions at the level of an individual room, a hotel, a brand or a group of properties — and ultimately across the entire international portfolio. This centralised approach is intended to enable faster incident identification, more efficient content and application updates, and greater operational visibility across Marriott’s global network.
An expanded, monetisable content offering
The in-room entertainment system supports linear television, streaming and free advertising-funded channels, with more than 40 OTT applications and 250 channels available. The television experience will also incorporate personalised advertising via LG Channels and client-side ad-insertion capabilities, opening up an additional monetisation avenue for hotels across the network.

Towards an extension into the hotel’s shared spaces
The in-room technology will launch as a pilot programme across several Marriott brands, at 40 sites in the United States and Canada, ahead of a possible expansion across the group’s global portfolio at participating hotels.
As the collaboration progresses, Marriott and LG intend to explore opportunities to extend connected digital experiences and centralised management capabilities to hotels’ public and shared spaces, as part of a unified technology ecosystem across the property.
