Nobu Hospitality announces a new luxury destination project at Monte Rei, an award-winning resort in the eastern Algarve, Portugal. The project will form the centrepiece of a broader investment programme led by Norfin, spanning hospitality, residential real estate, leisure amenities and future developments, including a beach club. Construction is due to begin in 2027, with the Nobu hotel opening planned for 2029.

Set within an estate of more than 400 hectares of preserved countryside, centred on its Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, the complex will bring together Nobu’s approach to luxury hospitality, along with its signature cuisine, design and service. It is the brand’s second property in Portugal, offering a new interpretation of the Nobu resort lifestyle on the country’s southern coast.

The hotel will feature 100 rooms and suites, a signature Nobu restaurant and dedicated guest services. The project will also include 21,000 square metres of Nobu villas and branded residences. An international team of designers has been appointed for the project, including DSA Architects and the Rockwell Group, a long-standing Nobu partner, tasked with developing an architectural vision that brings the brand’s understated philosophy into dialogue with the eastern Algarve landscape.

“Monte Rei offers a rare combination of natural beauty, privacy and a well-established reputation for exceptional golf and residential living,” said Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality. “Working alongside Norfin, we have the opportunity to create a unique Nobu destination, deeply rooted in the eastern Algarve.”

“This marks an important milestone for Monte Rei,” commented Miguel Mateus, CEO of Norfin. “This resort has long been recognised for the quality of its golf course, service and residential setting. We are now building on this legacy to give it a broader ambition, combining world-class hospitality, an exceptional residential setting and carefully designed leisure experiences.”
