Accor has announced the appointment of Yves Wencker as General Manager of La Citadelle Vauban in Belle-Île-en-Mer, the future property of the ultra-luxury brand Emblems Collection. In post since September 2026, he is tasked with leading the pre-opening phase, developing the guest experience and building the teams, with the ambition of establishing La Citadelle as a landmark destination rooted in the identity of Belle-Île-en-Mer.
A historic monument undergoing transformation
Overlooking the entrance to the port of Le Palais, La Citadelle Vauban is one of the most emblematic architectural complexes on the French coastline, protected as a Historic Monument. Its integration into Emblems Collection, jointly announced by Accor and Banque des Territoires in early July, envisages a 90-key property combining rooms, suites and duplexes, a 2,000 sqm spa, several dining venues and a cultural museum. Opening is scheduled for 2027.
A hotelier trained in repositioning and openings
Yves Wencker brings almost three decades of experience in luxury and upscale hospitality, in France and internationally, with a recognised specialism in property repositioning and asset value creation. Before joining La Citadelle Vauban, he founded WHYhospitality, his own consultancy specialising in development, repositioning, openings and operational performance for owners, investors and operators.
He most recently held the position of General Manager of the Hotel Westminster in Paris, where under his leadership the property not only achieved 5-star classification in record time but also positioned itself, immediately after its reopening, as a must-visit address in chic Paris. His career also includes the role of Deputy CEO of the Hospitality division at Groupe ARTEA (Storia brand), where he oversaw a portfolio of twelve hotel projects in development across Europe, as well as management of Sanofi’s global headquarters site in Paris, following his tenure leading the Hôtel Raphaël in Paris.
A significant part of his hotel career, however, was built internationally, spanning Cotton House on Mustique, Commune by the Great Wall (Beijing, under the Kempinski flag), as well as Taj Palace Marrakech, Selman Marrakech and Heritage Le Telfair in Mauritius. He also led accommodation operations across Disneyland Paris’s seven hotels and held the role of Director of Food & Beverage at The Ritz London.
A new milestone for Emblems Collection
This key appointment forms part of the development of Emblems Collection, the ultra-luxury brand recently launched by Accor, which is targeting a portfolio of 60 properties worldwide by 2032. La Citadelle Vauban will serve as its French flagship, supported by a partnership bringing together Accor, Keys REIM and Banque des Territoires.
