Australia | IHG and ALAND Sign Landmark Agreement to Launch Staybridge Suites in Australia
IHG Hotels & Resorts and Australian developer ALAND have signed a Master Development Agreement covering at least 15 hotels and 2,000 rooms to bring the extended-stay brand Staybridge Suites to Australia. The first two properties, in Parramatta and Leppington in Greater Western Sydney, are already signed. The deal builds on an existing partnership centred on voco Gosford and positions IHG in an extended-stay segment it sees as offering strong growth potential in the Australian market.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a Master Development Agreement with ALAND, the Australian property developer, granting it exclusive development rights for the Staybridge Suites brand across the whole of Australia. The agreement provides for a portfolio of at least 15 hotels and 2,000 rooms, structured as a new national platform dedicated to extended-stay accommodation.
A nationwide development agreement
Under the terms of the agreement, ALAND will hold exclusive rights to develop Staybridge Suites in Australia, with a minimum target of 15 properties nationwide. The signing marks a substantial strengthening of the partnership between the two groups and sets out a long-term development roadmap for the brand in this market.

« This is a significant long-term development agreement for IHG in Australia. Establishing a portfolio of at least 15 hotels and 2,000 rooms with one development partner gives us a clear pathway to build a meaningful position in the extended-stay segment, where we see considerable long-term opportunity. » Matt Tripolone, Managing Director Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts
First two hotels in Western Sydney
Alongside the master agreement, IHG and ALAND have signed the country’s first two Staybridge Suites franchise agreements: a 130-room hotel in Sydney Parramatta and a 112-room property in Sydney Leppington, both located in Greater Western Sydney. Both will be operated by Signature Hotel Management Group.
These two properties form the first phase of the national portfolio and build on the existing relationship between IHG and ALAND, which previously produced the opening of voco Gosford, a 130-room hotel within the Archibald precinct developed by ALAND.
Matt Tripolone stressed the immediate momentum created by these two signings: « Importantly, this is not simply an agreement about future growth. We are announcing the first two Staybridge Suites hotels in Parramatta and Leppington from the outset, giving the portfolio immediate momentum in two important Western Sydney growth markets. »

Two complementary markets for the brand’s launch
Parramatta and Leppington offer two distinct market profiles for Staybridge Suites’ entry into Australia. Parramatta is already established as one of Sydney’s key economic hubs, while Leppington benefits from its proximity to Western Sydney International Airport and the emerging Aerotropolis business precinct — a complementary positioning for an extended-stay offering.

Andrew Hrsto, founder and Managing Director of ALAND, described the agreement as a natural step in the company’s collaboration with IHG: « This agreement is an exciting evolution of our partnership with IHG and creates an opportunity to establish a significant new accommodation platform across Australia. We look forward to bringing the first hotels to Parramatta and Leppington and growing the portfolio nationally. »
Staybridge Suites has 355 open hotels and a further 152 in the pipeline worldwide, as at June 2026. Designed for stays of several days, weeks or even months, the brand combines residential-style suites with the services and sense of community associated with traditional hospitality.
In Australia, IHG sees significant growth potential in the extended-stay segment, driven by demand from business travellers, project-based assignments, corporate relocations and, more broadly, guests seeking greater flexibility for longer stays. Staybridge Suites aims to meet this demand by combining the consistency and service standards of an international hotel brand with a residential-style accommodation format.
